@AvfcU Ridiculous, means less chance for kids to play when I coached we had extra teams all year sprouting up just due to overspill and the weight of numbers of kids wanting to play, also makes it harder for kids who actually want to play in goal which is usually an issue at juniors

Youth football updates for next season has under 7s changing from 5 a side to 3v3 with no goalkeepers. Am I a dinosaur at 39 or is that a madness? Genuinely interested to hear views. 3v3 is a training session, not an organised fixture in my opinion

@AvfcU @9938Carl More kids will play at 3v3 rather than 5v5 as there are more multiples, less/no subs. I do agree that 3s does feel more training than match format though. Probably better for skill development, but not ideal for sure.

@9938Carl I think if you’re in an academy setup that’s different to your regular grass roots team. My thoughts are about ensuring as many kids can play as possible and also how many volunteers you’ll need to find. Neither of these are issues in an academy set up

@Teamgrassroots_ Depends on all the circumstances - the kid, your relationship / opinion of him and his family, reason for leaving, his attitude, ability etc.. very subjective, so just do what you think is best for all..

Message in from a coach asking for opinions. 🗣️We have a player who is leaving at the end of the season. Nice lad and no issues with him leaving and he’s seeing out the remaining games. we’ve got a new player who wants to join and is now training with us but can’t play league games till next season. Question is, do we offer tournaments to player leaving or should the space be for the new lad coming in, make him feel welcome and get used to playing with the team. Don’t have space to take both. Other coach and I can’t really decide as torn between both options and we are at U9’s so long road ahead for us.

@Secretgrassroo2 I’m sure there’s instances of the point you’re making, however extra training will be beneficial in most cases. Pure focus on a skill(s), volume reps =development. Of course they could just do this with parent, however a coach is different voice much like a teacher in school

1-1 coaches aren’t actually beneficial Not only unrealistic but if the kid faces any adversity in their normal team training they give up easily. “Well my 1-1 coach says this”
