Shaka Smart gave the simplest definition of culture I've ever heard.
Just 3 actions that explain everything about how great teams operate.
It sounds easy, but most teams never master it.
Here's what he said and why it's so powerful:🧵
I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to learn and compete again. Thank you, @Adam_Pilapil, for the invite, and I appreciate your valuable feedback, @CoachKaster. I look forward to learning more about the program.
Lucas Herbert has been playing some of the best golf of his career this season, sitting 5th on the LIV Standings, but he didn’t earn an invite to the PGA Championship. He addressed the issue ahead of the International Series Japan:
“When we came to LIV we knew that the majors were going to be the sticking point and it was going to be the hard thing to deal with. But it has been difficult to watch Augusta the last 2 years and know that I was never going to get there with the way everything is set up at the moment, there’s no clear pathway to get to Augusta. So it was tough to watch them knowing I was never going to get there.
“I’ve had chances to qualify for the other majors though, so I can’t get too upset at that. And that was the thing that we knew when we signed up with LIV, that majors would be the issue. They have the right to invite, or not invite, whoever they want. Obviously I’ve been playing great this year and I would have loved to have played. But a big part of why I’ve played so well this year has been being in a team environment with Ripper. I’ve learnt so much from the other 3 guys that I don’t think I would have been able to learn playing on my own on the PGA Tour.
“Having an off season to be able to do a lot of work in the gym and also a lot of equipment testing has helped too. We were never really afforded that luxury playing on the PGA Tour. You just couldn’t have gotten away with playing that little golf, unless you’re Adam Scott, or these guys like Rory, who is able to guarantee he’s able to go and win an event every year.
“It’s very hard to turn down events (on the PGA Tour). So an off season and the freedom with the club contracts, being able to go and test equipment, that massively helped too. So it’s a double edge sword.
“I don’t think I would have played as well as I have this year had it not have been for LIV, so maybe I wouldn’t have been good enough to qualify for the PGA Championship without LIV anyway. I’m seeing it both ways. It is what it is and there’s some guys on LIV that did get invited and that’s great because there’s some really high quality golf being played on LIV at the top end of leaderboards.”
Lucas has travelled the world playing on LIV as well as the International Series on the Asian Tour, and he’s also supported events back home in Australia, including winning the New South Wales Open ahead of Cam Smith at the end of last season. He says that playing a global schedule was one of his main reasons for joining LIV Golf:
“A big part of joining LIV was being able to grow the game internationally and particularly in Australia. It gave us an opportunity to get home to Australia and be able to play a lot more. Obviously we were able to get home and play the New South Wales Open and the 2 big events, the Australian Open and PGA. The New Zealand Open too, great event, obviously it had starts in The Open but I just love being in Queenstown. We’ve got the International Series events too, we’ve got one this week in Japan and we’ve had Macau.
“It’s an opportunity to take golf into different parts of the world that maybe hasn’t had this kind of access to this level of golf for a long time. And I think that’s something that’s been missed with LIV a little bit, the reach that we’re getting internationally.”
As for the other majors, Lucas currently sits just behind Sergio Garcia for an automatic spot at The Open via the LIV Standings. But if he doesn’t get it, he plans to do qualifying for both the US Open and Open Championships anyway. It’s a big few weeks for the Aussie flusher 🔥🇦🇺

@Top100Rick Update - he’s 5 now - out of diapers - on the golf course ALL THE TIME - and his swing is still the most pure thing at the range. His baseball bat is also ELITE. @Tfalwell
Want the hard truth?
For 95.3% of us:
We can hit a million golf balls
play 10,000 rounds
take 1,000 lessons…
And will never have a swing as good as this 3 year old…

Happy Friday!

🔥 from @StuartMcMillan1 today. Maybe one of my favorites. Stu, I appreciate you. Got an idea. My birthday is coming up and instead of getting I’d like to give. I’d like to contribute 10% of the bundle for an up and coming professional. Maybe we start a little scholarship deal?
Sweeps alert. 👀
