The excellent Helen Walsh spoke on behalf of @nihecommunity. Helen is their domestic abuse lead and she spoke about her and Elaine's work to layer domestic abuse policy and training in their 3000 employee's understanding. NIHE have shown how it can and should be done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We had a really well appreciated session from Aodhan today. He spoke about boys and was just brilliant. He is our Peoject Lead on our Boy's Initiative. It is important that boys impacted by abuse are given timely support to make sense of their experiences and thoughts.

@GH99953797 @BelfastLive Do you mean both male and female victim are skilled at DARVO? The @PoliceServiceNI statistics say 1/3. The number of men actually killed can't be denied. 12 men have lost their lives to domestic abuse since 2020. Overall 41% of lives lost to domestic abuse are male.

@BelfastLive Are they though? Alot of abusers are very skilled with DARVO. Number of women actually killed can't be denied. The average man is simply physically stronger than a female. Obviously there are exceptions, but sometimes common sense needs to come into play.

An eye opening day hosting the Men’s Advisory Project 2026 conference. Learning more about men and boy victims of domestic abuse whether the perpetrators are relatives (father, son, brother, nephew etc) or intimate partners (women and men). @MensAdvisoryP

The PSNI officer and speaker from NIHE are both female. But you don't need to be man to do this work or do it well. We had 34 men attend the event, which for a conference in the community and voluntary sector is a pretty decent turn out.

The wonderful Liz Bates. We genuinely were blessed by Liz's presence and her wide and empathetic understanding of domestic abuse and its impacts. Today she spoke about the experiences of men and the experiences of abuse on children and male victim's children. Brilliantly done 💙

They will be joined by Fiona Drouet, MBE, and CEO and founder of EmilyTest @Emilytest12, who will speak about the loss of her daughter, Emily Drouet, following her experience of domestic abuse. Patricia Downey, who lost her daughter Michelle to suicide following abuse, will share a poem written by Michelle. The Domestic Homicide Project's annual statistics reveal that the number of deaths from domestic abuse-related suicide outweighs the number of deaths from intimate partner homicide in England and Wales. Despite this, there is no effective or uniform preventative or criminal response to these cases.
