Christopher Nolan used to make movies like The Prestige.
Then he made Inception, which was definitely unique and a cool mind bender.
Then he made a movie about Matthew McConaughey ugly crying in outer space.
Then he made a movie for himself, with impossible to hear dialogue and an even more impossible to understand premise.
Then he made a porno pretending to be a movie about the atom bomb.
Then he made a gay Odyssey.
And that’s how you go from greatest director of a generation to satisfying the artistic tastes of David French.

Just watched the Odyssey. Glorious. Incredible. There is so much to unpack, and I'll be thinking about it for days. But there if I had to sum up the narrative arc in one sentence, it would be this -- heedless people, you will pay for what you've destroyed.

Nolan is so determined to fit everything into his post-Catholic morality that he took the Greek concept of xenia, a reciprocal guest-host relationship among civilised people, and universalised it into a simple "be kind" golden rule and made that the central message of his adaptation of The Odyssey.
He's so intolerant of anything alien in the source material that he makes Odysseus of all people a traumatised war veteran processing guilt for Troy.

I will never watch The Odessey
I am banning it from my household forever. You could not pay me to buy a ticket, stream it, rent it, or even watch it i"ronically".
The only way you are getting me through this thing is by strapping me into a chair Clockwork Orange-style and physically forcing my eyes open.
And nobody should “hate-watch” it. Do not buy a ticket just so you can complain afterward. Every dollar is a vote. Every view still rewards the people taking one of the foundational stories of Western civilization and turning it into this.
Let it fail. Let it become a warning.
Some things do not deserve your curiosity, your attention, or your money.
Nobody should see this movie.
