This is a perfect case for reindustrialization. Chinese cars are so cheap because of the supply chain. *NOT because of labor. 97% of car assembly is automated. 80% of a car’s BOM is supply chain, and China has built a scalable supply chain over the key pieces: batteries, motors, & electronics. Tesla Model Y BOM is about 20% lower when produced in Shanghai vs Texas. To close the cost gap is to bring supply chain home.
