After we sold WeblogsInc to AOL I was told i couldn’t be an EVP, because they had too many white guys and specifically the “leadership page looks too white male” They made me SVP and gave me the same comp as an EVP as a concession I didn’t care, since I’ve lived a charmed life and let’s be real, so many Americans have started their journey far behind me —- but I did think “that’s a bit racist isn’t it?” Ask any white male in corporate America during the past 20 years and they will relate a similar story. If we want to solve racism and inequality in America focus 100% on childhood education and make nurses school and pre-K FREE FOR EVERYONE

Now, there are four groups with very different perspectives on Israel and American sovereignty. 1. The Noticers. People who realize Israel controls our government and media. Thank God, this is the majority of Americans now! 2. Israel First. Aggressive propagandists and bullies who try to intimidate everyone else into compliance with Israel. 3. The Zombies. People who still watch cable news and think Israel is a special ally who needs our money and military in order to save Western Civilization. Poor saps. 4. The Cowards. People who know what's going on, but don't want to risk their careers. They're afraid that Israel First brownshirts will have them fired if they don't comply. This is the majority of national media.

Trump thought the blockade of the Persian Gulf would be a silver bullet that would bring Iran to its knees. Instead, it erased the desperately needed pressure release that Trump secured through the ceasefire. Thanks to the blockade, oil prices now exceed the levels seen during the war itself.  In essence, through the blockade, Trump snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. But the incessant search for an escalatory silver bullet that forces Iran to surrender is not unique to Trump. Trump appears to be setting the stage for a return to armed conflict by sending U.S. ships past the strait to pull ships through the blockade which he is also depicting as a humanitarian gesture. This would likely result in exchanges of fire with Iranian ships or shore positions enforcing the blockade and restart the broader conflict.

There was a roughly nine-month period after it became clear that AIDS was sexually transmitted and raging out of control among a category of super-spreaders in which the disease could have been prevented from becoming a global pandemic through ordinary public health measures that included shutting down the bathhouses, which were the main vector of the contagion. The response of San Francisco's well-organized gay community was to 1.) remain in denial that the disease was sexually transmitted 2.) insist that shutting down the bathhouses would be forcing people back into the closet, 3.) smear and shame members of their own gay leadership who tried to protect them from an ensuing holocaust that would go on to become endemic around the world. The brief window in which the pandemic could have been nipped in the bud closed -- the ensuing gay holocaust and the spread of HIV to devastate a continent was by then unavoidable.

When I was coming of age as a junior f@g hag in suburban New Jersey I was obsessed with AIDS and consumed every piece of media I could get my hands on about it. At the time — and probably still to this day — the common refrain was that Reagan was personally responsible for the deaths of thousands of gay men by refusing to do anything about the epidemic. One of my most “mind blown” moments was learning about author and playwright turned activist Larry Kramer and how he was pilloried by his own community when he said wait a minute boys maybe pump the breaks on the gay sex until we can get to the bottom of what’s going on. Larry, who ended up getting HIV himself, was the pinnacle of the loud annoying gay Jewish liberal activist with a messiah complex type but I’ve always had such a soft spot for him.
