@JonathanBrash I honestly wish what I have said was untrue. Unfortunately Hartlepool has amongst on of the highest unemployment and claimant rates in England. If you don't think thats makes an major impact then there's no real hope for the people of Hartlepool.

@Michael18282186 Completely untrue. Council Tax is failing because it’s based on 1991 housing prices. Politics of easy answers has no place in this debate

@ontvnow @JonathanBrash @UKLabour We all know Labour wouldn't pay for their own by-elections themselves. But Reform have offered to pay for it. Its actually a good tactic for a party to do this. But unfortunately due to the circumstances we know this would be a joke election. Especially if Count Binface wins

Labour, Tories, Lib Dems and Greens: I demand you stand down in Clacton. I will be a unity candidate and pledge to build at least one affordable house. Nigel Farage says he wants The People versus the Establishment. So be it. Leave him to me.

@JosephDavid1066 Hi - the person living in a band D property in Hartlepool is hard working, they pay £2,580 a year. The person living in a band D property in Wandsworth is hard working, they pay £1020 a year. Let’s have fairness for hard working people.

These buffoons know nothing. I poured every penny ever earned into my home. Its bricks&mortar are my pension, enabling me to downsize for retirement. I’m NOT rich. This policy means I’ll have to dump it on a collapsing market. Why does Labour always punish hard workers Brits?

Time to fix Britain’s broken Council Tax. In Hartlepool, a proportional property tax would mean every single household pays less. Labour MPs are coming together to back fairer taxation and real reform. Watch below 👇👇 #CouncilTaxReform @FairerShare

@JonathanBrash @FairerShare Council tax should be reworked, what you and your colleagues are wanting isn't a fair share as you suggest. You seem to lack the knowledge of even basic economics and not understand that people who may be asset rich are actually cash poor and cant afford the council tax rises.

@AndyMcDonaldMP Public ownership of steel isn't going to solve anything. You could just deal with the issue that caused our steel industry to fail in the first place.

On Teesside, iron and steel built towns, livelihoods and identities from the early 19th century onwards. As Chris Rea said - the ships and bridges, they were all delivered from Sydney Harbour to the 'Cisco Bay. We know public ownership of steel is just common sense. 👇

@ArchRose90 There's a difference between asking someone and forcing someone, you know this. Plus sending migrants to a uninhibited Scottish island isn't the same as dumping them near the public. I like you man, but this is a dumb thing to say.

@mavek @JonathanBrash Judging by the link he posted to me, he wants to make places with hight property values pay more and then redistribute it to struggling areas. So steel from the rich and give to the poor. More or less.

@JonathanBrash @Michael18282186 If people in hartlepool pay less, what happens to adult and children's services which the majority of council tax goes on?

Council Tax is broken. People outside London often pay more than those in wealthier areas, that’s not right. We need the political will to fix it. 📝 Sign the petition 📢 Share it 🏛️ Help force a debate 👇 petition.parliament.uk/petitions/7543…

@JonathanBrash Just because something is progressive and yes some people do have the ability to pay more still doesn't make it fair. Why should someone pay more council tax than an other person when the services they receive or identical.

@JonathanBrash And how is fair making one person pay more for the same product? Its like charging one person £1.16 for milk and another man 1.76 for the same Milk.

@Michael18282186 You’re advocating for a poll tax. Progressive taxation based on ability to pay, is a well founded principle. Flat taxes allow the rich to pay less and force the poor to pay more. Such a proposal would hammer the vast majority in Hartlepool. So, I’m against.

@JonathanBrash Thats because hartlepool has a high unemployment and has a high proportion relay on child and adult services. You need to address these issues. You need to attract the wealthy businesses and people into the area to create jobs and opportunities. Not the opposite.

@JonathanBrash Whats being proposed here is not the flat set price its a percentage of value on a property. At the end of the day everyone is paying Council tax is paying for the same service. Why should one house be charged more than another house because its worth more?

@JonathanBrash Do you not belive high unemployment and high demand of child and adult social care in the area is more of a major factor? Wouldn't it be fairer if all properties no matters the price be paying the same rate of tax as they all get the same council services

@Michael18282186 Council tax is based on 1991 house prices. Hartlepool has 55% band A. Westminster has 1% band A. The impact of this is that Westminster can keep overall bands lower and raise more money due to housing mix. It’s become a tax on deprivation.
