#writers #WritingCommunity Ever feel that while you write certain genres or types of stories, that you know deep down that you could write something else and it would be brilliant and amazing, but you can’t conjure the courage and strength to do it?

What if I told you… you actually have to talk to people to market your book?

@DetWha lol I read it this year on purpose and when I talked about it being overrated, some weren’t happy. It really does have some holes and the ending just seems unrealistic. Even when you give it fantasy/plot armor. Then really the connection between the interests wasn’t there.

I stumbled into A Court of Thornes and Roses, not knowing what it was. Thought it was a normal fantasy, which it almost was. I did finish it, wanting to know what all the fuss was about. To say I was unimpressed would be an understatement. Smut aside, that book had serious issues with plot, characters and a particularly dumb riddle that took me about 10 seconds to solve but took the main character the better part of a year. And the resolution HINGED on that fucking riddle.🙄

#readersoftwitter #writingcommunity What genre of book did you try to read and just were like “nope not for me”? Maybe it’s not a genre for me, but things that are dreamworld type books, kind of throw me. Which is strange because a lot of it is fantasy, which I love.

@mimimiself_ Ok got ya. I think one of the things I will have difficulty writing because my brain doesn’t wrap around it so well, is body horror. I wouldn’t even know where to start.

#WritingCommunity What genre do you write? Does it coincide to what you read most? I write fantasy and read fantasy the most.

@JoeSundown1 @MichaelDarin That's a good question. The answer is probably more the latter than the former. As a Juvenalian satirist my writing albeit comedic in style tends to be about serious stuff, so I'm really not taking a mental break from it.

@AngieMBrady Ok I hadn’t specifically referred to as women’s fiction, but that’s because I never think of the plethora of subgenres, fiction has still housed within real life.

@MichaelDarin Nobody knows 😂 I take it to mean fiction with female MC that has some sort of emotional journey. It could easily file under book club, and some authors/agents do that instead!

@ItsSugarThyme Horror/comedy. Like darkness touched my neck and made my heart stop, but then I laughed because it tickled a little?

@MichaelDarin Right now, I'm writing a romantasy. But the other thing I'm writing is an action horror / comedy... I've mostly been reading light novels, partially because I'm an editor.

@AngieMBrady I’m curious is women’s fiction, fiction with a female MC or female growth?

@MichaelDarin I read classical literary fiction, and write Juvenalian satirical literary fiction. My writing is always comedic, whereas a lot of my reading is serious.

@MichaelDarin I write steampunk. Most of what I read is more generic science fiction, but I never had the ideas there. I do read quite a bit of steampunk, and a plot came to me there, and I went with it.
