@LauraRbnsn Both comments are so true. There are some good Amish people but not sure why people fool themselves into thinking Amish are the new ideal trad community. I lived in Lancaster County PA for over 10 years and my husband is PA Dutch.

@LauraRbnsn Rape, incest, DV, child abuse are not uncommon and if you only get outraged about animals check out puppy mills. Look into animals not having souls, are a work product, treat them as money makers. Also, you are "English" they can lie, cheat, steal & does not apply to you.

My mom and pediatrician used to talk about how when they were residents at the pediatric hospital that they'd see all kinds of horrible stuff from Amish country. The genetic bottlenecks and inbreeding cause all kinds of incredibly rare severe illnesses.

One thing my kids will understand is that their childless aunts and uncles are not their burden as they grow old. If they want to invite them to family gatherings or special events, they can. But caregiving and the responsibilities that come with aging are not their responsibility.

I once ate MREs for over 60 days when we were shutting down bases in Afghanistan. When I told that to my Basic Officer Leader Course instructor when I commissioned, he told me that wasn’t possible because the max you’re allowed is 21 days I think about that interaction a lot.

Unrelated, but a decade ago I was in a unit where the admin person was very overweight. He couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t losing it. He worked out, and ate a small dinner. Come to find out he was eating two MREs at his desk for lunch. That’s over 4k calories in one meal.

@hell_line0 He was before he hired my dad but definitely not after he went to work for him. My dad had so many health issues and was a very ill man. It was heartbreaking to watch someone treat him that way.

@hell_line0 My dad had a colostomy bag and it broke he took a 2 hour train ride into work. The owner was a long time friend who knew how private he was. He made him work in pee soaked clothes. I look forward to peeing on his grave whenever possible.

🚨REPORT🚨 Pete Buttigieg and his male partner were separated from their kids after someone made a “false” claim saying he posed a danger to his four-year-old twin children. Buttigieg said a Michigan State Police officer and a child protective services worker came to his home. According to Buttigieg’s Substack, an anonymous caller claimed he had confessed years earlier to violent crimes during a chance meeting in Alabama.  He claims the police believe the tip was politically motivated.

The actual odds are that what he said happened actually happened. Prominent leaders get swatted all the time, and the idea that a politician with Presidential ambitions would invent a fake story that could be easily disproven, (and thereby backfire), as a political stunt is stupid. Look at my Federal Raid, my Swatting attempts and a false report made by paid activists to state agencies. This stuff is very real and it’s not OK. It has to be dealt with by serious legislation and citizen protection.
