The dog people are so ridiculous; there's no equal right to public space for dogs and children. How could there be? And the fundamental issue, aside from all the sanitation concerns, is a safety one: Your dogs do, on occasion, bite, growl, and steal from little children. They have no right to be in human establishments! They present a huge risk that parents must then manage.

@MeghanEMurphy I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it sounds like you think that 1. Dogs are more joy than children and 2. That replacing one thing for another necessarily means you think they are exactly equivalent I disagree with both of these statements.

@Boniface1Donar0 If anything it's soured me mostly on the need for human representation for God. If I'm going to have a relationship with God, I don't need a proxy. I can have that relationship directly with him. If prayer works, then God will hear my confessions directly through me

An uncommon very personal post from me ... When I returned to the Catholic Church (I was raised Roman Catholic - I was baptized, received my First Holy Communion and was Confirmed) last year after many, many years away, I waited nearly two months before receiving Communion. I wanted to make sure I was back at the Church for the right reasons, and was ready to recommit, but also commit in a way that made sense for me. So anyhow, obviously, I had to go to Confession prior to receiving Communion. I went one day in the middle of the afternoon and I had just missed it. So I quietly approached one of the Fathers asking if it was too late to go to Confession. (I did not realize as I approached him, it was the Father whose masses had become my favorite to attend. Uber conservative.) Anyhow, I explained it's been many, many years and I have been attending mass every Sunday the last two months but would like to go to Confession. He asked exactly how long it had been. I told him. He looks at me and says "Ok, let's go. I have a lot of questions for you."

@Boniface1Donar0 @beyondreasdoubt It was 1994. And they only concerned with the school. So anytime a student confessed a sin that was something that had been done to the school/at school they got screamed at

I have been to confession in dozens of parishes in multiple dioceses over the last three years. Not once have I ever had a priest raise his voice nor have I ever heard anyone else have this experience. It may be that you went to confession in a different era, or with priests with very different dispositions than the ones I’ve met. If so, I’m very sorry this was your experience. Nevertheless, I find it extremely difficult to believe that people are routinely getting screamed at or shamed by priests in confession. Seems like an aberration rather than the norm based on my experience.

That’s right. But not because I think Toby Maguire is technically a pedo, I just think a 50 year old man dating a 20 year old woman signals that he’s a pathetic loser and there’s no way these two are connecting on any level at all. He just wants a kid to boss around and think he’s smart. Older women dating men in their 30s is fine and a different dynamic.
