As a former member of the Twitch product team who built out gift subs, I can tell you the only reason this feature exists is that internal staff are scrambling to hit EoY revenue targets with “low-hanging fruit” features to squeeze every penny they can get to keep leadership happy. cc @zachbussey

@RotPiece @dev1yer @yourlocalgoost Viewers can feel free to support however they want. This doesn’t change anything except for the people that want to gift large amounts. As I said earlier, it is a small number of people.

It's absolutely a cash grab to make twitch get more income and revenue; instead of creators who get donated the same amount via Paypal or Patreon etc. It's a gimmic to bring in $$$

@mrNY2cali @Twitch @TwitchSupport We do discount T2 and T3 recurring subs during sitewide discounts like Subtember. They are not currently for channel level discounts.

So, the value for Tier3 is the extra sub point users get which lowers the sub price per point for goals & things, and Partner Plus which also gets the free subpoint. But its never included in discounts so that is why nobody uses them. Right now only extra value is the extra Partner emotes for T2,T3. You could get rid of T2,T3 all together & switch current subs to be multi month resubs (T2 = 2 months, T3= 6month extensions) then just have Tier1s Just a note; there is the 1000 Max gifted subs but new promo this week maxes 35% on Tier1s to 35%. I assume this is some Fraud protection but its a weird inconsistency to be able to make a $5k order normally but only a $800 order on discount.

Ok @Twitch @TwitchSupport Explain why Tier 3 subs are never included in any discount program, marketing promo, or product update? It can't be fraud, Tier1s now have a cap of $5,000 with the introduction of 1000 Max Tier1s. It's can't be Sub Tokens as 6 Tier1s = 1 Tier3 in subpoints for the Partner Plus qualifications. @MikeMinton @djclancy999 I've asked this same question every patch notes for last 4 patch notes & created multiple Uservoice Tickets on the matter. It's time to have a answer as programming wise there shouldn't be any reason why Tier3s don't get the 35% sub token inclusion or get higher max gifted caps.

@zachbussey He defines lurkers as actively engaged. Lurkers by definition are lurking, not actively engaged. Makes no sense. Just tell us the exact number of streams we can have up that count towards viewership and let’s keep it moving. Bunch of word salad from this dude.

Twitch's Chief Product Officer, Mikey Minty, has addressed the community regarding the ongoing discussion about counting lurkers.

@AnthonyKongphan @Twitch We will investigate. Mobile payment errors and/or limits are generally out of our control as are issues on the PayPal side. For credit card payments the issue could be somewhere between us, our processors, and the issuing banks as we will look into this.

So this is a huge problem that has been happening lately on @Twitch . My Subathon along with probably many other streamers receiving large amounts of gifted subs, this has been experienced by multiple viewers of mine. They are receiving multiple processing errors when trying to gift large amounts of subs & seems like Twitch is bottlenecking their accounts not allowing them to spend their own money. If this is happening to me, then it most likely is happening to many others. If any other streamers have experienced this with their communities, would love to know. @PirateSoftware Bummer we were not able to chat at TwitchCon. Agree slop is bad. I also think we can help the 75% of streamers that don't have clips after a stream by using AI to find entertaining moments to clip as a starting point versus scrubbing through VOD.

Sick of auto-slop garbage worming its way into content creation. Will be happy when this feature dies.

@wellenborg @Dexerto In addition to the bot problem who is validating the methodology of how many times a user is counted? How devices are deduped? Etc etc. Not a great source and incentivizes fraud.

@wellenborg @Dexerto Live concurrent view counts are flawed as a comparative measure of platform scale and visibility. It is not a measure of unique reach nor can the numbers themselves be trusted per this entire bot conversation. This problem is certainly not unique to Twitch.
