FYI it's happening. There are two of us now (an alto and tenor sax).
Grab your instruments, people, even if it's been a while.

Inching ever closer to hosting a park event where everyone who hasn't played their instrument (and even if you haven't played in years, it's still *yours*, isn't it) shows up to rejoin music together. There's a huge mental block there for people! Just show up. Join the band.

@JerusalemDemsas Excited for this discussion! Quick clarification: the image says Wednesday, October 15, but the 15th is Tuesday. Is the event on Tuesday or Wednesday? Thanks!

@mattyglesias So who is proposing say limits on Presidential power?

Get the fuck out of your apartment

Been stuck in New York for a decade now. By far the most overrated city on earth.
Glued to X 19 hours a day. Worried about how many likes and impressions I’m getting
Just got back from 2 weeks in Greece and realized absolutely none of that matters. Like at all.
There’s a perspective you get from traveling that you literally can’t get from anything else
Worries like people not responding to DMs or worrying that I don’t have enough TSLA stock go out the window
It’s summer 2024 right now. If you haven’t yet, drop whatever meaningless bullshit you’re doing and get out. There are plenty of cheaper options out there if money is tight
It’ll be worth 10x whatever you pay

@ScottNover Idk I’d watch Arod slapping that glove on repeat for 90 minutes over what I just saw.

@ebottcher @MayorFrey Can’t wait to tune in! Minneapolis has done a great job on building resulting in stable rents and a decline in homelessness. Hope we can learn from their experience to see these trends come to NYC! onefinaleffort.com/blog/a-detaile…

A reminder about our Zoom forum tomorrow with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

Minneapolis is unique among U.S. cities for having largely stabilized rents.
Why is this?

NYC is in a code red housing emergency. We must treat our housing shortage like the crisis it is — that means building A LOT of every type of housing because you can’t evade laws of supply & demand.
Excited to team up w/ @ebottcher & other NYC electeds!

@ebottcher @RegionalPlan Wow, those numbers are startling.. the demand to live in NYC is incredibly high and unless we build more housing, we will keep seeing rents be unaffordable. Thank you for leading the charge to address this!
English

In 2022, @RegionalPlan estimated that NYS would need 800k+ new housing units in ten years to address current needs & meet expected population growth.
In 2023, just 9,909 new apartments were proposed in all of NYC. (cont.) nytimes.com/2024/02/13/nyr…

@agounardes @SenatorMyrie Thank you for supporting more housing in our neighborhood!

Fully agree with @SenatorMyrie on how to tackle our housing crisis ⬇️
“Allowing new housing development—in conjunction with other measures to protect tenants and make New York more affordable—is how our city can survive and thrive in the years to come.”

@SenatorMyrie Thank you, Senator! We need more housing!
English

Housing remains the greatest need in every corner of our district, and throughout NYC.
I hope we can meaningfully address the crisis in this year's session.
In the meantime, I support building new homes on the Arrow Linen Supply site in Windsor Terrace.

@ArmandDoma Not quite same universe, but curb your enthusiasm is a tv show that exists in the sopranos universe! youtu.be/Ue02mURy7VQ

It would be very funny if prestigious HBO shows all made little nods to each other, implying a larger HBO Cinematic Universe…say, a passing reference in Succession to a shocking death at a White Lotus hotel owned by WayStar…Frank & Karl lounging in background of White Lotus…

@ArmandDoma Spoiler Alert, but I think this was basically the idea at the end of the Watchmen movie from 2009.
English

kind of interesting how in pop culture, hero is deontologist (“I’ll save my friends even if it endangers the planet!”) while villain is cold utilitarian (“Kill the puppy to save the world!”) but story usually cheats by making hero’s choice the utilitarian one as well in the end
