@edreas @srob_ 1.) Colder? 1 hour of sunlight has a negligible effect on temperatures in the winter, especially during the coldest months. 2.) More accidents? Street lights exist now, have you heard of them? 3.) Yes, fck those kids. I went to school in the dark every morning in the winter.

Fuck it - I’m engaging Who cares? It’s the morning, thug it out, get to work, get to school and move on. Sun in the morning Does Not Matter. Having light longer in the afternoons is far more useful bc people do things then. I will DIE on the hill of permanent daylight time!

This will be such a nightmare.

@LaurenceTobias1 @nynjpaweather I walked 25 minutes to school (started at 7 am) from 6th to junior year. It was pitch black more days than not getting there. There's so much damn light pollution now it's not even dark at night. Kids will be fine.

@wxtaylorwarwick @nynjpaweather I’m not talking about 6th grade to junior year. I’m talking about elementary school kids-Kindergarten through 5th grade-do you want them walking to school in the dark? Or waiting for a bus in the dark? That’s what I’m talking about. Not older kids.

Smell smoke this morning? Its coming from a wildfire outbreak in Ontario. While it should not impact air quality much today, smoke at the surface could increase Wednesday into Thursday, potentially reducing visibilities and air quality. High temperatures may also be limited.

@abrkylaw @BigJoeBastardi Kind of like how New York’s power grid performs beautifully in sub zero temps, but Texas’ grid shut down during a cold snap a few years back right? And Ted Cruz fled the state to go on vacation?

Can someone answer this question? How is it Florida has no problems with its grid with more people and 4-6 months of hot humid weather, and NY state has one impressive heat wave and the grid could go down? Obviously I know the answer, and so should any rational human being

If you're seeing lightning out there tonight, it's from these storms out by the Berkshires. What many call "heat lightning" is just lightning from storms too far away to hear the thunder. #wbz

France has reported around 1,000 deaths due to the heatwave. Spain has reported 327 heat-related deaths. Italy has reported 5, and Germany has reported 7. This is no longer just a climate crisis. This is a humanitarian crisis.

Had a conversation with somebody today about how late (relative to the greater US) tornado season peaks in Massachusetts. Though Mar-Jun is classic tornado season, 75% of tornadoes out here occur in the second half of the year! And 75% of that number is in July-August! 🌪️

NEW: The terminal Doppler radar at Palm Beach International Airport in Florida is being re-identified with the initials of Donald J. Trump. The radar, formerly identified as TPBI, will now have the abbreviated TDJT. This comes as Palm Beach International Airport is officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with the changes taking effect on July 9, 2026. This is in response to a law passed by the Florida Legislature in February. NOAA’s Radar Operations Center released the following statement on Wednesday: “With the FAAs official name change of the airport, the SPG identifier for site TPBI (Palm Beach International Airport) will change to TDJT (President Donald J. Trump International Airport), affecting externally disseminated Level 2 data and Level 3 products from this radar. New identifier, DJT will be used wherever PBI currently appears. Users of TDWR SPG data from TPBI should update their systems to reflect the identifier change. Once the new identifier has been implemented, data will be transmitted and archived with site identifier, TDJT.” There are 45 terminal Doppler radars located around the country to protect 46 high-capacity airports. The FAA-operated C-band Doppler radars have smaller coverage areas but finer spacial and temporal resolution. They’re designed to protect against realtime threats to aviation, like wind shear and microbursts.

The SPC is a tremendous organization. I do think we could have split the Level 2 up today. It doesn’t make sense upstate NY, VT and NH - areas that have a legitimate tornado risk are a Level 2 along with CT where I’ll be surprised if it thunders.

Widely scattered thunderstorms develop between 8 to 11 PM in western New England, and some could be severe with damaging straight-line winds the main risk. Thunderstorms then become more numerous late tonight & overnight (through 4 AM), but the risk for severe weather is low.

Mid level dry air is not allowing storm clouds to grow enough for central and eastern SNE. There is PLENTY of lift though. -4 is sufficient for Severe weather. Many areas currently at -6!
