The combahee river collective is who coined identity politics. They were a bunch of random activists who basically accomplished nothing but managed to influence policy debates that led to a carceral approach towards gender based violence that expanded the police state and criminalized black women and men rather than helping them. And the people who explicitly took their ideals of identity politics and built a movement in the 21st century also accomplished nothing but managed to allow a few black women to get paid off of the police killing young black men. Why should we take identity politics seriously?
