MENYA Program Empowers High School & University Students to Shape Rwanda’s Digital Future The Rwanda Internet Community and Technology Alliance, @RICTAInfo, in partnership with @giz_rwanda through the Digital4Rwanda initiative, and the @RwandaICT, has Kicked off an inclusive Outreach Program dubbed “Menya”, meaning “to understand” an inspiring nationwide initiative designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry while fostering a digitally skilled generation ready to lead Rwanda’s digital transformation. The MENYA Program builds on the success of the University Outreach Program pilot whose objective was to bridge the gap between academia and industry through digital transformation sessions at UNILAK, AUCA, and UoK. Engaging over 475 participants, the pilot explored emerging technologies such as Generative AI and fostered valuable connections between students and industry experts. To broaden its reach and inclusivity, the initiative evolved into the MENYA Program, extending its impact to a wider audience. The Menya program began on October 29, 2025, at the University of Kigali (UoK), bringing together over 157 students. In her remarks, Professor Ogechi Adeola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, encouraged students to remain focused, seize opportunities, and strive to become part of the solutions to challenges facing their communities. She commended the MENYA Program for promoting practical learning, collaboration, and innovation among university students. Mr. Egide Niyongira, Head of the Digital Skills Division at GIZ Rwanda, urged participants to apply the knowledge gained, emphasizing that today’s world is driven by technology and that students should position themselves at the forefront of this transformation. Mr. Geoffrey Karegeya, Business Development Manager at RICTA, highlighted the importance of community engagement in education and the purpose of the MENYA Program. He emphasized that Rwanda’s digital transformation is not just about technology but also about people — building awareness, collaboration, and inclusion to drive sustainable impact. Ms. Darlene Gatesi from MINICT, presented national digital empowerment initiatives, including AI programs and @1MRwandanCoders, encouraging students to explore these opportunities and build the skills needed to thrive in Rwanda’s growing digital economy. Mr. Isaac Manzi from GIZ, under the Digital Inclusion Council, explored the theme: “The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Rwanda’s Digital Transformation for the Academic Context.” He discussed how AI is reshaping education, emphasizing innovation opportunities, ethical considerations, and the importance of preparing students for an AI-driven future.

Today marked the official opening of the 3rd Annual Scientific Conference of the Rwanda Dermatology Society, taking place from May 20–22, 2026. The conference brings together dermatologists, healthcare professionals, researchers, and public health stakeholders to discuss advancements in skin health, dermatological care, research, and prevention strategies relevant to Rwanda and the East African region. Skin diseases remain a significant but often underestimated public health concern. Conditions such as eczema, fungal infections, acne, allergies, autoimmune skin disorders, and skin cancers can affect quality of life, mental health, productivity, and overall wellbeing. Scientific conferences like this play an important role in: • Strengthening medical knowledge and collaboration • Promoting early diagnosis and prevention • Improving patient-centered dermatology care • Addressing myths and misinformation around skin diseases • Expanding access to specialized healthcare services As Rwanda continues to strengthen its healthcare system, conversations around skin health, public awareness, and preventive care are increasingly important. #RDS2026

Women Doctors For Reproductive Justice
“Not all wounds are visible, and women’s mental health deserves just as much attention as physical health.” As we mark Day 5 of RWDFRJ Women’s Health Week, we are raising awareness about women’s mental health and the importance of creating supportive and stigma-free spaces where women and girls can seek care, support, and healing. Women face many pressures within families, workplaces, schools, and communities, and these responsibilities can greatly affect their emotional and psychological well-being. Yet, mental health challenges among women often remain misunderstood or untreated due to stigma, gender inequality, violence, economic stress, and limited access to care. Globally, women are 1.5 times more likely to experience depression than men, and more than 10% of pregnant women and new mothers experience postpartum depression. At RWDFRJ, we believe mental health is a human right and a public health priority. No woman or girl should ever feel ashamed to ask for support. #WomensHealthWeek2026

Not every emergency begins near a hospital. In many communities, the first minutes after an injury, burn, road accident, or sudden health emergency can determine what happens next. Yet timely care is often delayed by limited first aid training, lack of basic supplies, and harmful practices that may put lives at further risk. With the message “First Aid saves lives. Act fast and correctly,” our MGHD Global Surgery Class of 2026 students worked with communities in Butaro to strengthen one of the most important parts of emergency care: the first response. Over four days, the students delivered locally adapted first aid training, based on the WHO Community First Aid Response Course, to more than 120 community stakeholders. The sessions focused on practical skills, using available everyday resources, addressing harmful practices through open dialogue, and increasing awareness of Rwanda’s national emergency number: 912.
