Must include every single Democrat who started running for the lobster district, like @HelmerVA and @DSMcAuliffe ... curious if Dorothy will have to pay back the large amount of money she raised to run for a district that does not exist. There were many bad actors locally and across the country, telling lies about how this was 'leveling the playing field,' and insisting Trump was making them do it, rambling about Texas ... trying to sell it on the idea that it was TEMPORARY. Which we all knew, it was not. Ultimately, this was a complete failure from the get-go: breaking laws, going against the state constitution, and willfully deceiving voters, all while insisting they were the good guys. Turns out, they were definitely the bad guys. Finally, this is not a win for Republicans; I realize that it helps us in the midterms, but in my humble opinion, this is much bigger than that. So many hot takes the past 24 hrs from people—incl. many Va Dems—who haven’t the faintest idea what the Virginia Supreme Court is like and how partisan & regressive they’ve been in recent years (and distant years). Those of us who practice in SCOVA always thought it was a toss up Not armchair quarterbacking here, either—I still think they had to try. I’m just surprised at how few people understood the likelihood of the referendum being invalidated.

With just five days to go until the Virginia gerrymandering referendum, I've just run the same early vote model that I used in 2021, 2024, and 2025. The results give me an early vote electorate of: 🔴GOP: 35.99% 🔵Dems: 64.01% That's pretty much the ballgame right there. I'm sure "No" will do significantly better than Sears did last November, but national Republicans really just abandoned this fight before it even began. My gut tells me that the GOP is going to fall just short of what it really needed to get on both the persuasion and turnout fronts. I'm expecting "Yes" to win by about 3-7 points. The Supreme Court of Virginia should throw this entire case out because Democrats violated the state constitution and state law in order to even get this referendum on the ballot in the first place (to say nothing of the explicitly partisan language itself), but considering the court is filled with cowards, I'm not holding my breath that they'll do the right thing.
