@Fizzlebah @MtBakerWA Same. There are journalists and SciComm folks that I trust a LOT. They put in a ton of work behind the scenes to ensure accuracy in their products. That said, there are some media outlets, some with huge readership, that are plain irresponsible.

Inflation of a volcano can SOMETIMES indicate magma moving (causing the ground above it to swell). However, it can also just be due to the movement and accumulation of gas, which could passively degas without eruption. This is definitely a volcano to watch in the next days/weeks

Iceland Met office reports "unusually rapid" inflation (around 3-4 mm per day, 2 cm total so far) occurring just west of Mt. Thorbjorn #volcano on Reykjanes peninsula. It may or may not be magmatic. The InSAR image shows recent inflation. Stay tuned at en.vedur.is/about-imo/news…
