We have this evening been informed that the EFL’s League Arbitration Panel has upheld the sanctions imposed earlier this week.

@DjtTyler @Bigalanh5 @SouthamptonFC @KieranMaguire they were forced to tighten up the rules. They did. And people want leniency. City, Chelsea and Leeds got away with it so Everton, Forest and Leicester don't. But getting kicked out of knock out comps is as old as I am. 2/2

@DjtTyler @Bigalanh5 @SouthamptonFC @KieranMaguire Ex Southampton players. Angry Leicester fan projects his own clubs plight. Bla bla. I know the FA would have been tougher on Southampton, Leicester, Man City and Chelsea given the chance. Football clubs, including Southampton, made it all wishy washy. After Leeds cheating 1/2

@royston1099 @MigrationWatch a lie. To be fair Priti Patel said she wanted large scale Commonwealth immigration rather than EU folk from 2012 and during the 2016 referendum. Pro immigration Boris Johnson hid in a fridge rather than explain what he, Patel and Badenoch were up to. So here we are! 2/2

@royston1099 @MigrationWatch Hello McBobby! Yes. But it was too late by then. They knew that when Baby Boomers started to retire we would need more immigrants or suffer labour shortages. A large EU with free movement was the answer. Why David Cameron's let's get back to 10s of thousands was 1/2

@DjtTyler @Bigalanh5 @SouthamptonFC @KieranMaguire It is worse! Southampton went, "Let's Cheat!" Stockton didn't. They made a mistake. Right decision on both occasions. By the way, Southampton could have withdrawn from the competition like gentlemen when caught. But I guess they wanted to make a few quid.

@Muppetweeble @Bigalanh5 @SouthamptonFC @KieranMaguire It was completely different and well established issue re unregistered players. This was absolutely fuck all with clearly no impact and has been blown out of all proportion. It’s an embarrassing disgrace that the game has been won in a committee room in such a way.

@DjtTyler @Bigalanh5 @SouthamptonFC @KieranMaguire Football is governed by rules and everyone needs to agree to these rules! And follow them! Saints literally had committee meetings about cheating last December! And decided it was a good idea! You saying banishing these special needs cretins is bad because they are too stupid?

@MigrationWatch @JonjoBamjo @CurtisDaly_ Business is pro immigration. Least informed about low birthrates and labour shortages? Criminals run a huge £200B black economy. They need immigrants to exploit. Least informed? No. They are experts. How do you defeat them? Juvenile attacks on us irrelevant lefties!

If the media stopped reporting on migration, attitudes would change. The same couldn't be said about cost of living, as people can literally see their living standards drop. No matter the migration number, people will be angry as long as the media tell you it is
Migration Watch@MigrationWatch

Immigration is cumulative. In 2001, roughly 1 in 12 people living in the UK were born overseas. Just 25 years later, it's roughly 1 in 5. This is one of the most rapid and drastic demographic changes, outside of war, in human history - no wonder the public are concerned!

@CutterFred93421 @MigrationWatch Case. Why did you let in all the immigrants from 2001? Defence. We ran out of workers from the 2000s due to low birthrates from 1965 onwards. We were all still at school in 1965. Verdict. Yeah. Good point.

@danielstorey85 It's a £200 million decision. A wrong decision made by an organisation that is not fit and proper to run football leagues. There is no precedent for this disproportionate decision. That is the first question the judge will ask when this goes to court, and it will.

The most incredible thing about Southampton and spygate is that, still, so much energy has gone into "err this is unfair" rather than apologising to fans, arranging refunds and going cap in hand to to beg them to stick with the club. They have torched their entire reputation.

@IanDarke Entirely different. Southampton and Stockton was easy as during the competition. Man City and Chelsea have been hard as it is post various seasons. BBC News - Stockton Town FC disqualified from play-offs after fielding banned player - BBC News bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

The Southampton case and size of punishment does set a precedent. If spying can cost potential promotion worth £200m , what happens to clubs found guilty of cooking the books to gain an unfair advantage ? This may or may not include Man City, who vehemently deny all charges.

@RonnyLerner As a Southampton man, I’m shattered. Absolute overkill of a decision. Ban and fine the people who did it, not punish the players and fans.

Geez Southampton’s punishment seems incredibly harsh. In the AFL, scouts are at rival club training sessions frequently 🤣

🚨 Spygate written reasons OUT - no major surprises We knew most of the information in the written reasons. We did learn that Southampton got 2 points credit (generously) for "the available mitigation, including the Respondent's acceptance of the charges, co-operation (although it is not accepted that this was unqualified) and their proffering of information in relation to the OU Incident and IT Incident." The Tribunal was ultimately happy to distinguish between Leeds and the current case. Suffice it to say, I disagree. That is how litigation works and why it is so unpredictable.

That sounds clever but I do nothing of the sort. I merely a) connect it to the key precedent situation b) the fact that the scale of the sporting advantage is determinative of the scale of the sporting sanction. It is well established that any sanction should be no greater than that which is necessary and proportionate for achieving the sanction’s purpose. IMO the Southampton is far in excess of the minimum required.

Even more lovely comments than usual on this. But nobody is going to convince me that this punishment fits the “crime” especially in a sport riddled with “cheating” in every game Simon Jordan & Stefan Borson EXAMINE Southampton LOSING Spygate Appeal a... youtu.be/ZpXMk0nkmic?si…

@slbsn It is literally the only punishment. What Southampton did was worse than Stockton! Did you think Palace ban from Europa League was disproportionate as well? BBC News - Stockton Town FC disqualified from play-offs after fielding banned player - BBC News bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
