Gov. Sherrill visited Delaney Hall, heard from families, and even took a call from someone detained inside on a commissary line—and then she left. A visit is not enough. NJ needs leaders who act. We are calling for more DDDI funding and a complete end to police collaboration.

🗣️ “We want to make sure that the people who have been on hunger strike are not being retaliated against. In the past, we have seen people who have organized inside be punished by ICE”, @RepMenendez ICE must be held accountable for the abuses against the people inside Delaney.

It has been more than 13 HOURS and Members of Congress have still not been allowed to inspect Delaney Hall. More lawmakers continue to arrive, joining the growing crowd of families and advocates gathered outside.

I’m in touch with families and advocates of those detained at Delaney Hall, and what I’m hearing about conditions is simply unacceptable. There must be immediate action taken to improve conditions. I’ve long been concerned about conditions at Delaney Hall, but to see food and access to fresh air seemingly weaponized in retaliation for oversight visits and community concern is a new low for GEO Group. I introduced an amendment this week that would provide the oversight of Delaney Hall that is desperately needed. I’ll continue to push for better conditions and ultimately to shut down this corrupt and inhumane facility.

Earlier this morning, families of people detained in Delaney Hall hosted a rally calling out the dangerous conditions inside, including medical neglect, lack of air conditioning, and lack of food – including rotten and spoiled meals. Full press release: njaij.org/news
