I’ve been in this business a long time. If you insinuate someone did something wrong, you don’t air it out without being 100 percent sure it’s right and verify it. Particularly if you write for a major newspaper.

This is a useful illustration of why the dating pool is smaller than many singles realize, if things are less grim than implied here bc:
1. People enter and exit relationships all the time (i.e. single population isn’t static)
2. People move to and leave cities all the time (same as above)
3. The smaller the environment, the more compatible you tend to be with other inhabitants (e.g. the cutie across the bar from you in Bali is also the type of person who moved to Bali. You probably have more in common than two people making eyes across a bar in NYC — can confirm having lived and dated in both cities 😂)

To find a gf Let's say you have 1,000,000 people city Only 1 in 5 are in your age group = 200,000 left Half of those are women = 100,000 left Half of those are not single = 50,000 left Women are selective and don't like 90% of men (even if matching in age group etc) That leaves you with just 5,000 women But on avg you will like only 1 in 5 of those women (eg your type) = 1,000 left On approach/match 10% of those lead to a date = 100 dates left Of those dates 10% lead to a relationship = 10 women So as a rough rule: Divide a city's population by 100,000 to know potential amount of gfs For women looking for bfs this is obviously much easier, probably 10x easier so 1 in 10,000 The point is cities are for single people, it's where you find bf/gf, it's statistically VERY hard to find them in a village, beach town or rural area Try dividing a 10,000 village by 100,000 you end up with 0.1 potential partner, it's low odds (Ironically, Bali looks like a very sexy place but confirmed by my friends living there VERY hard for dating for foreignere exactly because of the relatively small foreigner population, which some say is only 5000 actually settled there, the rest being transient, obviously finding a potential partner in a tiny pool of 5000 will be hard, as many foreigners are not dating locals) But that's why those places are perfect once you are not single Peaceful and also no distractions anymore Well except for Bali ;)
