Leopards living on the edges of cities (where agricultural fields and fragmented forest patches meet the expanding urban sprawl) sometimes stray in while searching for food. But a wrong turn or mistimed move can leave them trapped. Swift action is key to keeping both wildlife and people safe. Thankfully, this Sunday morning rescue wrapped up in under two hours thanks to great teamwork, with no harm to either! @MahaForest @PuneForest @resqct @pcmcindiagovin @PCcityPolice @FirePcmc @NachiketUtpat @shekhardalal @TSatarkar

This big cat isn’t here for a showdown - he’s just trying to mind his own business in a landscape where humans and wildlife overlap. Leopards in human-dominated areas are masters of stealth, preferably opting for retreat over confrontation. Who’s more scared? The video perfectly captures the behaviour of this big, but non-confrontational cat—while we fear it, it fears us more. The driver’s reaction at the end of the video—though unnecessary 🫤—just hurried the inevitable. Given a few moments more, the leopard would have quietly moved on, a perfect example of how these elusive creatures prefer to stay in the shadows rather than step into the spotlight. Video Courtesy: WhatsApp (no thanks those who love to stir up panic at the mere sight of a wildlife cameo) #leopards #maharashtra @NachiketUtpat @TSatarkar @AbhimahaleWild

Today, I proudly share our journey of establishing the new RESQ Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre - the Pune Wildlife TTC. This video is a testament to our team's relentless dedication and hard work! Our centre is more than a facility; it's a beacon of hope for wildlife in emergencies, aiming to rehabilitate and reintroduce them to their natural habitats. Despite numerous challenges, our commitment to creating a better future for these animals drives us. Through collaborations with research partners, we contribute to learning, early disease detection, and wildlife conservation. Transitioning from our previous centre, we're more determined than ever to provide top care and reintroduction programs. This milestone wouldn't be possible without our team's unwavering support, our community, and the Maharashtra Forest Department. There’s still a long way to go, and a lot more to set up and stabilise - but I’m deeply thankful for everyone who believes and supports our mission. #keepingwildlifewild @SMungantiwar @MahaForest @TSatarkar @NachiketUtpat @akshay_journo

Yesterday we got a distress call from a sugarcane farmer about a " wild meow " in his farm. Our rescue team was surprised to see 4 leopard cubs. The rescue mission started by evening & the cubs were successfully reunited with the mother the same night #Jalgaon #Leopard #Reunion

Even the world's fastest bird, cannot outrun the careless threads of human leisure. We've taken over land, we should really spare the skies and ensure they don't become speed traps for gorgeous birds such as this peregrine falcon. #manja is a such menace.

Reflecting on a year of commitment and collaboration for conservation: 2023 at RESQ, a year in review! This video is a testament to the resilience, dedication, and shared purpose that has guided us through the challenges and successes of the past year. As we recap the year, we're reminded not just of achievements, but of the daily rollercoaster of feelings experienced by our teams - joy, hope and bittersweet. We've learned that growth is measured not only in numbers - but in the animal and human lives we've touched and the bonds we've strengthened. Join us in revisiting the remarkable milestones achieved in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and management of human-wildlife interactions. As we look back, we're reminded of the power of collective effort and look forward to #2024 with humility, knowing that we have …miles to go before we sleep! A heartfelt thank you and sincere gratitude to every one of our supporters, none of this would be possible without YOU 🙏 …and from the entire team at @resqct, we wish you a very #HappyNewYear! #WildlifeConservation @TSatarkar @NachiketUtpat @AbhimahaleWild @Resq_EcoEcho @DrChetanVanjari @harshad18397

Early morning leopard call mobilized @resqct @PuneForest @PCcityPolice @CP_PCCity @FirePcmc for a rescue in Patil Nagar, PCMC culminating in the successful rescue of a young male leopard that had strayed in the bustling locality of Chikali, PCMC. Responding to a sighting near a wood storage shed, teams tracked the leopard it through to a cattle shed and into a jowar field between the houses. This rescue presented a complex scenario due to the dense vegetation being closely interspaced between residential setting. Today’s operation would not have been successful without… 1. @CP_PCCity support to control crowd at safe distance 2. @FirePcmc Department’s Bronto Skylift 3. @TSatarkar on thermal drone monitoring leopard movements continuously 4. @DrChetanVanjari timely and accurate tranquilisation shot By 10:00 am, the young male leopard was enroute safely to RESQ Wildlife TTC, Bavdhan. A perfect blend of teamwork & tech in wildlife rescue. #LeopardRescue #UrbanWildlife #Teamwork #conservation @NachiketUtpat

Every single successful wild reunion is one less cub saved from going into lifetime captivity. After 3 days of tracking, multiple set ups, patiently waiting for hours..at 4:30 am the leopard mom finally arrived, called out for her cub, and our teams opened up the door of the cage to reunite the separated! It's a #HappyDiwali 🪔 after all! Satara FD x RESQ CT @TSatarkar @RohanBhate23 @AbhimahaleWild @NachiketUtpat @akshay_journo @ben_ifs @Mani_ifs @MahaForest @resqct

A lone wolf in Dhule was in distress, too weak to stand and seemingly blind. Dhule Forest Department team rescued him and brought him to @Resq_EcoEcho Nashik where our team worked tirelessly to stabilize him on arrival. Although he's now on his feet, his vision is compromised, hinting at possible head trauma. The next chapter of his recovery is unfolding at @resqct Wildlife TTC Pune, where he's undergoing treatment for his eye. We're all rooting for this brave wolf and hope he fights his way back to the wild. @AbhimahaleWild @TSatarkar @DrChetanVanjari @harshad18397 @manoharnagre21 @MahaForest

Leopard cub x mother reunions that make you laugh! Tonight, this female leopard did multiple circles to ensure her cub is inside and then decided to give the setup a royal hustle disrupting our live cams! Whew - it still managed to capture her whisking her cub away! #leopard

🐆 Not too far from Pune, a young leopard cub took an unintended plunge into a well. Quickly rescued using a trap cage, we convinced the locals to allow us to attempt a reunion at the spot. Overcoming challenges, including a manual pulley operation and staying camouflaged 800 meters away, the cub was monitored thru the cams anxiously. Thankfully for this cub, the reunion was purr-fectly quick. The skies celebrated with us — nature's nod of approval, the heavens opened up with rain just as the two were reunited and the cub was back in it's mothers embrace. (whew!)
