I find it interesting that when feminists and egalitarians (including those who claim to be “conservative”) talk about women as leaders, “servant-leadership” never gets invoked.
The “servant-leadership” model seems to apply only to men (and especially husbands).

@JayBarry9 @KylePWren Yeah, the reason teams value exit velo is because it directly correlates to batting average, as does launch angle. Negative launch angles and low exit velo leads to more outs and fewer runs.

We’ve reached the point where now people have forgotten that these players were valued for 100+ years before analytics took over baseball front offices.
With so many teams choosing offense over defense this was inevitably going to happen.

Honestly tired of the Dolans are terrible owners narrative. #Guardians have made the playoffs 10x and won the division 8x under their leadership. They hire quality people to run the team, offer stability, patience + competitive. Beats spending a ton and losing all the time.

I don’t know about you, but my phone does it automatically and my other clocks take me a grand total of 7 seconds to change.
It’s about efficiency allocating the additional sunlight hours. Most people don’t want the sun to rise at 4AM.

Agree, this is one of the reasons it's just stupid to stay on Daylight Time.
We should remain on Standard Time throughout the year. No fiddling with clocks, just sanity.
If states want to spring forward, they should. I suspect the ones that want to do it would all be East of the Mississippi.
Arizona is smart and doesn't do DST at all. Much too hot there to want daylight to extend longer into the evening.

It’s imperative that we revert to STANDARD, not Daylight time, for two reasons, one of which you may have never considered. You know the first: solar noon is closest to 12 o’clock all year. That means an equal number of hours before and after noon each day. This also means earlier sunrises which are significantly better for establishing a healthy circadian rhythm. The second reason is that nearly ONE THIRD of US counties are in the wrong timezone. A significant swath of the country isn’t only an artificial hour ahead because of daylight time… but TWO HOURS ahead of true solar time. Year-round daylight time, especially without recalibrating time zones, would establish this error permanently, affecting millions of Americans. We should be letting the Sun dictate the day the way God made it. Arbitrary, artificial tampering would be worse for us all. Fix the time zones and affix standard time.

@NateDaNative Well, it is an option only to a point. In top-tier places students may be a year behind in math. I routinely see students that are 4-5 years behind. Then what? 99% of them will not complete a calculus sequence, no matter what I do.

From where I stand the problem is that after Covid's destructive impact on primary education and with declining demographics, many institutions have to choose between lowering admission standards and going into a budgetary death spiral.

Shredding college admissions standards has all kinds of bad consequences. The most obvious is that many students arrive and are unable to do the work. At U of California, the number of students whose math skills were below high school level increased by 30X! This does *not* help those students succeed. Destroying academic standards hurts these students, it makes the curriculum poorly suited to the students, and it burns out the faculty.
