@CyborgPeds Same here. You would think us airdales would get something. I’m 50% deaf. At least the VA acknowledges, gives me 0%. Flight deck was bad enough. Low power turns on F-18s and F-14s for a couple hours in the hangar deck was brutal. The sound vibrating off of 3 steel walls for hours

@CyborgPeds Yep, have my veteran National Park card too. Virginia did away with free access to state parks for veterans. I still have my card though. I’m special under grandfather clause. If I lose it, I have to pay.

@NavyStrang Yep. They stopped beach replenishment on the ocean side of Buxton and let nature take its course. Built a new bridge because of it too. The island chain of OBX has been shifting westward for decades.

@IndefiniteLT I remember my last PHA for the VA. They said 2-3 beers 3 times a week is a borderline alcohol problem. I tell them that’s a huge improvement from my Navy AD days where I would consume a case of beer or half a handle in a night. They look at me weird. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

@radioactivered Question, if you don’t mind. My step dad, a Navy HM1, did rad safety for Bethesda Naval Hospital while stationed there. I was young, but I remember him wearing a rad badge and said he x-rayed walls to figure out what was in them. What does that job entail?Similar to this?

@NavyStrang Happy I had the chance to yellow shirt direct S-3s before they were phased out. Mostly refuelers at that point. I did the 98-99’ and 01’ deployments aboard CVN-65 USS Enterprise.

@OnDisasters Definitely prepared me for my journey. That airshow gave me the itch I couldn’t scratch for military aviation. 5yrs later, I enlisting in the Navy and became a ABH yellow shirt aircraft director. Saw more mishaps and lost shipmates along the way. A unfortunate part of the job.

OTD in 1953: BOAC Flight 783, a Comet 1, crashes in Calcutta (India), all 43 aboard die. Shortly after take-off, jet broke up in mid-air while flying in bad weather. Inquiry pointed structural failure was likely caused by the severe gusts or pilot actions on the thunderstorm. (🧵 1/5)
