The current physical activity guidelines are too low. I've been saying this for a while. And a new study confirms it. Meeting the standard 150 minutes/week was associated with only a modest ~8–9% lower cardiovascular risk. The biggest protection occurred at roughly 560–610 minutes/week, about 3–4× higher, where cardiovascular risk was 30% lower. We need to distinguish between the minimal activity volume required for basic protection, and the substantially higher volumes required for optimal resilience.

@foundmyfitness This is a little riduclous working out 10 hours per week can affect cortisol, hormones specifically female hormones, lead to overtraining syndrome, lead increased inflammatory markers and more abnormalities .There are other ways to improve cardiovascular risk

@mackinprof @GregLehman Hi Stuart, participants showed 30 to 40% improvements in their 1RM Leg Press over the 12/52. How was 'resistance trained' defined in this paper? It seems like a pretty big change for someone who's trained.

Systematic reviews on the topic show good consistency of effect and not exercise specific pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28834797/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35015560/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33433148/

@mackinprof My observation of most papers supporting the strength continuum is that it’s often only 1-2 exercises that show low reps are better than medium reps. It won’t be a consistent finding across all exercises tested.

It's time to remove laptops from classrooms. 24 experiments: Students learn more and get better grades after taking notes by hand than typing. It's not just because they're less distracted—writing enables deeper processing and more images. The pen is mightier than the keyboard.

Happy to announce @SciMed_Football’s new 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 category for small-sample studies, a pragmatic step to address the spread and misreporting of underpowered football research. Grateful to all co-authors for months shaping the submission requirements.

With individual data, we were able to compare the INTENDED TID prescribed as intention-to-treat And the real COMPLETED TID for each athlete, based on weekly heart rate % distribution in a 3-zone model 20% of athletes completed a different TID model than they were prescribed😮7/

@gtesst @doclsmack @bnoehren @kcrehabguy The discovery of occlusion training stems exactly from parallels w the sensations experienced during hypertr/bodybuilding training. The japanese have been researching this since early90s. If joint is load compromised (i.e. transient AKP), we use it irrespective of time post op.

@doclsmack @bnoehren @kcrehabguy Why in the world would you do BFR for 4-5 months post surgery? BFR is designed to limit atrophy in the acute and sub-acute stages. It is not designed to build muscle. It would be interesting to know which BFR cuffs were being used as well.

Just done some data collection on @MDPIOpenAccess. At the moment, they have 41,030 special issues open. If they published one special issue a day it will take >112 years to publish all them all. What is your view of a publisher publishing so many special issues?
