While energy and lives are dissolved in wars that don't make sense, which in turn undermine trust in the the international system, there is not enough attention to the effect of climate change and global inequality - as this report shows😞
Kanni Wignaraja@kanniwignaraja
#SDGReport2024 shows global inequality rising; 23m more people in extreme poverty; 100m hungrier. Slower GDP growth not helping nor is decline in health/ed progress. We can jumpstart stalling #HumanDevelopment engine w new ideas & innovation! #SDGActionNow unstats.un.org/sdgs/report/20…

The escalating violence in #Sudan's Al Fasher is dealing a crushing blow to civilians at their most vulnerable.
I am horrified by news of the RSF attack on South Hospital.
The fighting, looting and atrocities we are seeing in Sudan over and over again – they must stop now.
WHO Sudan@whosudan
🚨@WHO is appalled by the recent attack on South Hospital, the only facility with surgical capacity in Al Fasher, #Darfur. The hospital's closure following the attack has stretched the 2 other hospitals there beyond capacity, further limiting access to life-saving services.🧵1/3

Honoured to be asked to present keynote at #SupremeCourt conference on #ClimateChange.
This was the third #SCP judicial conference that I have spoken at (with three different CJ’s). One remarkable thing about them is that most judges, including the Chief Justices sit through every session - not only listening, but even taking notes. Wish actually listening to talks they are presiding over could be made a law for all conferences and all chief guests😉!
Sorry that I had to join virtually, but thankful that I was able to share some ideas. Stressed that amongst the most vital role that can be played by the judiciary on climate is, especially by local courts, to enforce existing regulations, including municipal, building, and zoning regulations. Also talked about #water and #LivingIndus as a vital barometer of Pakistan’s climatic health.
