Reminder: Disabled Former NFL Players have until March 31, 2024 to submit T&P applications using SSDI/SSI awards. T&P applications submitted on or after April 1 will require evaluations by the Disability Plan’s neutral physicians to determine eligibility.

Therefore, if Kearney's family chooses to later donate his brain, based on our experience, the odds are he'd have CTE. That is why asking whether CTE contributes to violent acts is a good question. Perhaps it is time to stop shying away from this discussion. What do you think?

At the UNITE brain bank at BU, more than 91% of NFL & 50% of college football players studied have had #CTE. Families are surprisingly good at diagnosing CTE in their loved one considering less than 1% of the population has CTE & it's only those exposed to repeated head trauma.

Kearney was on the @nyjets preseason roster in 2004-5. Listed as a WR, but had only 22 catches at Georgia Southern. Appears he was a special teams superstar, with 37 tackles & 12 KOR. Special teams are the most dangerous plays in football for the brain. 247sports.com/nfl/new-york-j…

With that said, few medical experts (outside of many of those hired by sports organizations) question whether brain injury or brain disease changes behavior & may result in disinhibition, or acting on impulse without regard for future consequences. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

This issue is difficult to study scientifically because CTE can only be diagnosed accurately after death. People who exhibit abnormal behaviors are more likely to have their brains studied bc families or authorities want insight - creating sampling bias that is hard to quantify

We've diagnosed CTE in too many former athletes who have become violent & killed others. When asked whether #CTE can cause violence, it was interesting to see a UPMC's Dr. Julia Kofler say "It certainly could have contributed" (I agree) considering UPMC's history on the issue.

The @SkyNews piece focused on former college player Noah Green, who had no history of violence before he killed police officer William Evans & was killed. Noah had crashed a car into a barricade at the US Capitol in DC. He was diagnosed with stage 1 #CTE. news.sky.com/story/is-there…
