@eastoxbusiness Kids do matter. Kids of all skins colours btw bacaise they all go to school and they all deserve safety and well-being for they are the future. In any case, pedestrian friendly neighbourhoods attract more custom.

@eastoxbusiness You had nought else to say anyhow. Do not mind being called. A weirdo who stands up for kids well-being. Better than being an eejit whose brain is inextricably connected to a car.

@eastoxbusiness Then go and see how you get on with a legal challenge for Oxford´s LTNs (spoiler, you won’t even try). In fact, there should and there will be more LTNs because people who go about without a cars should have priority.

@eastoxbusiness You literally just have to read the campaign page where the statement is clear: A KC deemed the case meritless. There was less money raised for the congestion charge challenge, it got taken to the High Court where it failed miserably.

When you see it, you can’t unsee it. No bus lane. 4 lanes for cars, 2 for parking, 2 for driving. Cars parked in the cycle lane. And some still blame bikes. Congestion costs London £3.85bn a year, yet we still prioritise parking over moving people.

This queue is mostly made up of private vehicles. The die-hard car brains who believe it is still a sensible idea to drive in the city should be required to pay per mile. This congestion significantly impacts essential services, trades, & buses. Bottom line, it's selfish.

@GwinnettAnne Did you get a reply? Also, how’s the congestion charge judicial review going? Is it all set for the oral hearing? It’s better be quick before people start noticing faster buses.

Reminder that your average pre-1920s city resident did not ride a horse to accomplish daily errands People walked to stuff. Because destinations were closer and more convenient, including in US cities. My 1910s neighborhood (still “very walkable” by US standards) used to have many more residences and shops, which were demolished and replaced with roadways/parking lots in post-war period.
A.M. Simpson@msim2

@UrbanCourtyard @ItsLeoBitch23 you are also not taking into account that those cities were developed around horse culture. An entirely different metric.

What impact is the congestion charge having on journey times in and around Oxford? Drawing on official OCC monitoring data, let's start with North Oxford. Shades of red means slower, shades of green means quicker (we think!). There's quite a lot of red in this part of town...

@OneHeadington @ReconnectingOx Vehicles are not funnelled. People make a choice to drive and that should not be at the expense of vulnerable road users, which LTNs address. In any case, great that bus routes are quicker. Wonderful indeed that the congestion charge is having the desired effect on bus passengers

@ReconnectingOx Great analysis. Worth adding that the chronic congestion at St Clements for the past 2–3 years has been directly caused by LTNs blocking all side streets between St Clements/Morrell Av & Cowley Rd which funnel thousands of extra vehicles through this pinch point every single day.

Obviously, the congestion charge is having *some* effect. The pinch point is St Clements is getting quicker (no one mention it was never busy in the mornings anyway). And people seem to be put off going to Westgate, making the area quieter. But some reductions are reversing.

Oxfordshire County Council's transport policies normally have the effect of making congestion in Cowley worse. And, surprise surprise, the congestion charge is having exactly the same effect, on steroids. Is it any wonder that the area is now stuffed with anti-OCC councillors?
