Matt, I’m also an ardent espouser of the church’s role in administering discipline and particularly of Presbyterianism’s court system… but only in so far as recognizing that the church’s role is ministerial compared to Holy Scripture’s sole status as magisterial. It’s part of what distinguishes us from papism. It may not be prudent to dismiss a man’s ministry based on an initial court ruling and particularly not based on who may or who may not endorse the man in question. We should remember “Athanasius contra mundum” when weighing our position on a presbytery’s ruling and the man-in-question’s position in Christ.

@ehenes @redeemed_zoomer Right. What the Reconquista movement tends to miss is that their own vision of faithful Presbyterianism would still be identified as liberalism/progressivism by the conservatives they appeal to.

But their gender may reveal something about their hermeneutics, which is upstream of their theology. It’s takes like this that makes it clear that @redeemed_zoomer is just a 1950s liberal.

All meat, no bones! 🥩 @ZacharyGarris demonstrates a throughly biblical understanding of how man relates to woman in the context of the family, the church, and the state by rooting it in consistent and historic Reformed teaching. It’s a great supplement to his “Masculine Christianity,” too. (And what a killer book design by @New_Christendom!) #description" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">newchristendompress.com/products/honor…

@Darkosade @BonifaceOption 1 Corinthians 10:1-2 [1] For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, [2] and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

Yes, it is anachronistic but nevertheless conceptually correct: Abraham was a Christian. Melchizedek was a Christian. Moses was a Christian. Jethro was a Christian. Abraham and Moses were united to Christ by faith in the Abrahamic Covenant. Melchizedek and Jethro were united to Christ by faith in the Noahic Covenant. They were not saved apart from faith in Christ. They were saved by faith in God's promises fulfilled in Christ. They were Christians before the term was ever used.

From our country’s beginning, for as long as America has embodied freedom and exceptionalism, the soul of our nation has been rooted in the Christian faith. Today we gather, as our forefathers did on this day centuries ago, to rededicate our nation to God.

@wristburn @TOW1968 @Protestia 1 Corinthians 11:18-19 [18] For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part, [19] for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.

"Clobber, clobber, clobber" Presbyterian pastor (PCUSA) says that 'I am the way, I am the truth and I am the life, no one comes to the Father except through me' is a CLOBBER text that can be dangerous and used to do harm and damage.

Is the state of Connecticut really saying that they believe they have the right to "license" religious activities? The state has no business “licensing” religious instruction of any kind.

@redeemed_zoomer Certain sins being worse than others according to Scripture: true. Any and every sin being infinitely abhorrent offenses against an infinitely holy God according to Scripture: also true. There is a danger in over or under-emphasizing either truth.

@redeemed_zoomer @DDFStrand It’s artificial in the same sense that gardening is artificial: intentional cultivation. Remove weeds. Prune what’s healthy. Preserve what was planted. & when the soil is toxic, transplant.

As a Mainline Protestant, I see this less as a judgement of Catholics and more a vindication of Mainline Protestants Mainlines and Catholics are both established churches which naturally means more diversity of beliefs within Evangelical conservatism is artificial, since its churches were founded by schisming from any institution that wasn't conservative enough

I’ve heard this talking point from Caths forever. But the Catholic Church, on issue after issue, is closer to liberal consensus than evangelicals. It’s nice to have a theory but reality is the Bible thumpers are more orthodox across the board.

John Henry Newman describes "Bible reading" in England as a poor replacement for loss of traditional religious practices found in Catholic countries, largely "notional" and not "real," more about thoughts and sentiments than about devotion and acts of faith. (Grammar 4.1.2)

Protestants love to shout it. Catholics & EOs love to mock it. But what does “sola Scriptura” even mean? “The Shape of Sola Scriptura” by @KMathison1967 is the most helpful books I’ve ever read on the topic. Read more than once. Say no to “Tradition 0!” canonpress.com/products/the-s…

Finished @james_d_baird’s “King of Kings.” What a resource! Concise and sharp, Baird mines US history and Scripture to demonstrate our government’s relationship and responsibility to Christ in a way that seems to be utterly inescapable. Highly recommend! press.founders.org/shop/king-of-k…
