@ShaneTuttleNCAA Do any D1 hoopers choose a school based on academics? I mean, 1% of these guys have a pro option. The rest ought to get something from school that might help when they’re done.

There are currently 2,901 players in the men’s basketball transfer portal, opening 14 hours ago. With only 5,607 Division I players total, more than half of the player pool is now in the portal.

@nkozyra @Nixtrodamis @mhp_guy This is key. Don’t buy “Great Value” bulbs or other cheaper off brands. But high quality LEDs and they’ll last much longer. I tried the cheap ones and they rarely lived up to the claims of “long life” on the box.

@Nixtrodamis @mhp_guy Cheap LEDs are awful. Spend the money and you'll easily get ten years out of them. I have an early gen Phillips bulb that's 15.

Biggest marketing scam ever invented? “Lasts 13 years!” A few years later, it dies. “Where’d we get those bulbs from again? Whatever. Let’s just buy more.” A while back, I went through and replaced every incandescent in our house with LEDs. 7 years later, here we are.

@mistressdivy I kinda like it 🤷‍♂️. Just save your docs to your pc in the right place, and you’ve got an automatic cloud backup. And you can have multiple people work on docs together and see the changes…invaluable for my team for certain reports.

Have you ever seen a more unbalanced, unhinged, emotionally UNSTABLE person leading the Pentagon, especially during war times? I haven't. Yelling at the press for using trump's OWN words. Hegseth is in over his head. Impeach him, before he costs more American lives.

A winter for the books in Marquette, MI!!! ❄️
Dan Salmon@yooperchzhed

@TWCAlexWallace a couple heavy wet inches of snow overnight has put us at the third snowiest winter here in Marquette. We might even move into second snowiest winter by the end of the weekend.

@NielsenSTL @RicoBlaccIsBack No coach will ever tell players to pass up wide open teammates in the front court who have an uncontested dunk. It was wide open. He just needed to execute his fundamentals better to deliver the pass.

You literally know less about coaching basketball than your average 4th grade coach. Guys are WIDE OPEN down the court. All Boozer has to do is throw the ball 20 feet in the air and the game is over. But the fact you actually think players are following “instruction” or a “coaching decision” in this situation shows how completely clueless you are as to how the game of basketball actually works.
Kevin O'Connor@KevinOConnor

I'm blown away that Scheyer was instructing his team to advance the ball. Terrible situational basketball. Horrific coaching decision.

@ballnpolitics @ScoutWithBryan @RicoBlaccIsBack Trying to make that pass against a double-team when CT really has to foul (and you have a TO to use) introduces unnecessary risk into the equation. Take the foul and hit at least 1 FT and CT needs a miracle just for OT.

@NielsenSTL @ScoutWithBryan @RicoBlaccIsBack Exactly. This situation DID NOT require Duke to advance the ball to beat the press. They had the lead, a timeout, and UConn had no fouls to give. Hold onto the ball. Go to the line. Advance.

@earlaustinjr Every team needs a guy (usually a guard) that can get open in the back court, get an inbound pass, protect the ball and take a foul, and then knock down the FTs. Then it’s a 4 point game with like 5 secs left, pretty much done. Gotta want to take those clutch FTs.

People would get on me at SC when I pointed out Fulwiley uses wrong hand (right) to complete left side layups. Bad fundamentals that were never corrected. They would holler “As long as she makes the shot who cares?” Fundamentals only matter when they matter. Bit her last night.

A more active pattern will return next week. Confidence is still low on the details, but we should see at least some accumulating snow return to Utah's mountains. Potential for several powder days if it all comes together. Are we still into snow or are we over it?

New pod: HOW AMERICA TURNED INTO ONE BIG FAT CASINO I talked to @mckaycoppins about sports gambling, war betting, and the fast-motion casino-ification of American life Feat. - Behind the sports leagues' remarkable 180: In 2012, NBA commissioner David Stern personally confronted and threatened Chris Christie for trying to legalize sports betting. Fourteen years later, it is not humanly possible to watch or follow the NBA without making contact with gambling content. - @natesilver's Gambling 101: Online betting might be fun, but it's not "fair": There is an inverse relationship between the most popular bets and the smartest bets; 90+% of bettors lose money over time and the best bettors are limited and even kicked off sites. So the only way to really make money doing this long-term is to somehow manage to consistently belong to something like the 98th percentile of gamblers. - Vice vs wisdom: Sports gambling really is fun. It's also a vice with a significant tail-risk of addiction and financial crisis. Wisdom is the ability to identify, communicate, and legislate limits to legal vices—and we are miles from wise policy on gambling today. - The darkest timeline: Prediction markets really are useful ... but the fact that anonymous accounts can make millions of dollars from forecasting specific war outcomes is absurd and incentives are horrendous. Dystopias aren't just bad ideas taken to illogical extremes; they are often reasonable ideas taken to dangerous places. War profiteering on Polymarket is exactly that kind of dystopia. open.spotify.com/episode/0KJxKz…
