Well done to the female staff for stopping the shoplifters leaving with all of the items.
Waitrose, Morrisons and Poundland have recently dismissed staff stopping shoplifters.

Yesterday at the Palestinian march, chants of “shoot them in the neck like Charlie Kirk” were made in reference to people on the Unite the Kingdom march.

@Glinner As far as I could see there were only two who spoke on the side of the tras and both of them were grim, some ginger halfwit and the notorious Webberley. There was a woman called Buck Angel who thanked gay men for helping her/him. She/he was good. Alphonso David was excellent.

I think political correctness has been a substitute for ethical objectivism; whilst we figure out.
It’s the placeholder attitudes that claim to be perfect that have caused problems, especially where they can’t provide ample justifications for “why”.
I read somewhere that ‘tyranny is the absence of nuance’ and that certainly rings true.

I’m old enough to remember when everyone laughed at political correctness and thought it was mad. Now we have laws based on it, workers fired over it, people in prison because of it, and a public sector enslaved to it.

Instead, the relationship has been inverted. The state hides behind secrecy, classified files, and redactions while demanding total visibility into your finances, communications, movement, and behavior.

I genuinely think this was the first time many people in that room were confronted with the hard reality of the trans debate, rather than the slogans that usually surround it. @BuckAngel was exceptional: calm, articulate, humane. Ultimate respect. And then there was Helen Webberley. I remember once thinking the criticism directed at her by GC women was excessive, especially the claim she was ‘pure evil’. After hearing her speak, I no longer think that. She is totally insincere. I can deal with hard ideologues- they believe they are telling the truth; they are genuine, @HelenWebberley is different. One audience member, a trans-identified male and former patient of hers, stood to speak during points of information. His account of how he had been treated was deeply disturbing. I’ll always champion peaceful protest. But the Unite the Kingdom march organisers are peddling hatred and division. We’ve already blocked visas for far-right agitators who want to come here to spew their extremist views. They don't speak for the decent, fair, respectful Britain I know.

I had such a strong gut reaction to Helen Webberley last night. I simply don’t believe her. She’s insincere, disingenuous. Downright malign.

Why do you care about this trans bullshit so much Matt?
Well my daughter who has battled with mental illness all her life decided while at university that she was not a woman but a man and the mental health community (and the queer trans activists) fell over themselves to affirm this illness.
As far as I can see though she is not a man, nor is she any happier, nor is she any better. On the upside though she doesn’t have to worry about breast cancer any more.

This was no easy feat either. The Cambridge Union is, in many ways, the lion’s den: their territory, not ours. In the room sat many people I know to be hostile to @CUSocOfWomen.
I know what the psychosomatic stress of that room felt like just from the audience. Maeve walked straight into it and debated anyway!
