@JakeLandauTO No kidding. The guy was a the governor of two different national banks. I imagine one doesn’t get those roles rising through the ranks of the Steelworkers union.

These cuts are cataclysmic. No wonder Harper wanted Carney for his government, he's just as conservative.

@CoreyMott3 @Safety_Canada I’ve already vowed I will cut the restricted up and put them in 5 gallon pails full of cement. Then I’ll call the Mounties and tell they are in the front yard and to come and pick them up. The entertainment value watching that far exceeds what the govt will ever pay.
English

@NorthernABPiper @Safety_Canada Stay strong. They'll offer pennies on the dollar.
I'd destroy it in a fire before I turned it over.
Fun fact, you can destroy your own personal prohibited firearms, as long as you contact your CFO and report them destroyed. You aren't legally required to provide proof of it.
English

After two months of the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program for individuals, more than 47,000 prohibited firearms have been declared across Canada. Deadline to submit your declaration is March 31. See the provincial and territorial breakdown here: canada.ca/en/public-safe…

English

@Safety_Canada How many MRIs, doctors, police officers, CBSA officers or Coast Guard members could the 1 Billion wasted on this have funded.
English

Prohibiting assault-style firearms and removing them from our communities is an important Government of Canada's commitment to tackling gun violence in Canada. Learn more: publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/cntrng-crm…

English

@Calibremag They don't have to do a damn thing. The govt can let this program expire and pay off Quebec. At which point these firearms become a local law enforcement problem. Anyone caught with a prohib gets charged. The govt can claim no responsibility for that.
English

Important news: The budget for compensation has been slashed by 74%, from a promised $250M to just $64.8M, with no notice given to either existing or potential participants.

@Calibremag @JohnThomsonSK There’s a spur that goes from Saskatoon to the ammo dump. There’s a grain line to the town of Dundurn and the highway is right there. There’s only problem putting an ammo factory with federal dollars it doesn’t get votes in Ontario or Quebec.
English

@JohnThomsonSK A large part of where these things are made is based on proximity to major road and rail infrastructure.
English

Why not earmark funds to build them near Saskatoon, which is in close proximity to CFB Dundurn (CFAD).
The relative openness of the prairies to store/stockpile/secure ammo as well as serve as central distribution point for east/west shipments, makes a lot of sense.
It’s also a region which is growing more rapidly than others in Canada. It also happens to have some of the most affordable housing in the country for workers.
It also happens that there are large tank and artillery concentrations, as well as vast training areas, in the prairies making ammunition manufacturing/testing much easier for defence firms.
But, our votes don’t decide elections, so as usual, the plants will be built where they are.

@ColinDMello And who gets to determine 'reasonable force'? A judge and crown attorney who've never been in that kind of stressful situation? And do we apply the same rules to cops who empty an entire magazine into a perp?

Premier Doug Ford congratulates a Vaughan homeowner for shooting suspects during a home invasion.
“Should have shot him a couple of more times,” Ford says.
Canadian self defence laws have limits: if the action was disproportionate, or used more force than was necessary, an individual could still face charges.

@Feral999 @CanadasNFA I am sure they just changing the database to reflect actual and fair values and compensation for gun owners.

From what I have been led to believe, the portal to declare (register) your OIC-banned firearms has not been operational since yesterday (Sunday), and this notice is posted. Is this a sign that they have given up on the failed process? @CanadasNFA

@NorthernPyrite @cmdrbob558 @jennAA2014 Who is we? I would like to be able to defend my family and myself against ever increasing home invasions. I would also like not to be punished for doing so by the courts.
English

@cmdrbob558 @jennAA2014 We don’t want home defense here in Canada. We want weapons off the streets-
English

If guns are be used for 'home defense' they'll be kept ready & loaded & accessible which has meant more kids accidentally killing with them, more intoxicated shooting, more femicide, more suicides & more shoot random folks who want down wrong driveway like in with US.

@FrankWAuthor @Aranuir2 @WheelmanRuss @droid1963 I have military training and spent a good portion of my military career training other soldiers on how to use their rifles and machine guns. Does that make me safer in your eyes? According to you I can now own whatever I want? I don't know if my bank account can support that.
English

@ThatGuyThePlace @Aranuir2 @WheelmanRuss @droid1963 Neither is Canada Switzerland. All able-bodied Swiss males do compulsory national service, thereby forming the Swiss army. They are all rigorously trained and don't just walk into a gunshop.🍁

@GunOwnersofCana Let them screech. Perhaps, the Liberals will finally grow weary of being beholden to them. And start ignoring them and their photo-op ransom. How much better off will our community be?
English
It's all about the gun to them. Everything hinges on a make and model so they can add it to their own banning 'wish list'.
And it won't matter what it is.
And this is why we keep reminding everyone - they want them all and they won't stop until every single make and model is prohibited.

In response to calls for transparency, Public Safety Minister @gary_srp says "Once those investigations are complete, we will have more to say.” Why is he siding with the @rcmpgrcpolice on this? The minister is squarely going against the findings of the Mass Casualty Commission's that stated "providing timely and accurate public communications is a core responsibility of the RCMP." globalnews.ca/news/11726225/… via @amyjudd
English

@Polysesouvient @rcmpgrcpolice Why does this matter? What benefit would it be to society to know make and model. Other than supporting your narrative which seems to be crumbling around your ears.
English

“We urge you and all members of the @rcmpgrcpolice to demonstrate that the lessons learned from #NovaScotia are being applied to the Tumbler Ridge investigation, that is, by being transparent with the public about the guns used in this school shooting — information Canadians expect and deserve." Transparency is needed to inform policy debates about issues like #GunControl, like what type of guns & accessories should not be legally available for ordinary citizens. ottawa.citynews.ca/2026/03/11/gun…

@TWilsonOttawa @YukonStrong What do they mean by “previously registered to you”?
Presumably they mean a formerly registered, unrestricted firearm which has now been prohibited.
Aren’t those old long gun registry records supposed to have been destroyed?
