One question I have seen is why would anyone who isn't a bigot not accept that trans women are women?
Well, a simple answer is there is no reason why anyone would. The people who believe it (or at least claim to), not only don't have reasons, they spend a decade arguing that reasons are transphobic. But, what they do say is never intended to persuade people. It's virtue signaling, so they can feel good, or intended to shame people into silence and acquiescence. Such as
1) Shut up bigot. Clearly not an actual argument, not a rational thought, not something meant to influence anyone who cares about what is true
2) In a similar vein, "That's a bad faith question". This is an easy out. It gives someone the high ground, but they don't have to think about it
3) "We should believe people when they tell us who they are" This isn't an argument that is used for anything else. Indeed, when someone identifies as black, they are quick to refute it. This is simple intellectual laziness
4) A woman is anyone who identifies as a woman. Apart from being meaningless and circular, this is deeply misogynistic. The person saying this, is saying that to them, women are so unimportant and irrelevant, that there is not characteristic that makes someone a woman, no reason to keep something just for women, anyone can get into women's spaces on just their word
5) Trump agrees with you. It's hard to believe anyone thinks this is an argument. It's a direct admission that the person making it doesn't care about the truth, but sees this as entirely tribal
6) Men and women are social roles. They rarely say what these roles are, mostly because they recognize this is sexism gone wild. For 100 years, feminists fought against the idea that what women could do and be was limited, that they could do whatever they wanted, be whatever they want, but now we have these misogynists saying "Actually no, if you are a woman, there are certain ways you have to behave, things that interests you, types of jobs you should do". But they only say this because they think it helps give men access to women. They don't really believe it. Being pregnant is about as much of a social role for women as it's possible to have, but they will happily accept the concept of a pregnant man
7) Sex isn't real anyway. Or some variation of why there are issues defining by sex. This is following the Creationist model. They think that if they can cast doubt on the other view, their view somehow wins by default. This is not only scientifically illiterate, but they are adding racism to their misogyny. To claim that sex isn't important is claiming that FGM, selective infanticide and abortion, child marriages, honour killings are just not important. They mostly happen to brown people, so they are not something we need to understand or address, and it is more important that men who think they are women feel validated than it is to accurately describe the root causes of abuses like these
8) We shouldn't define woman as will exclude some trans women
9) we shouldn't define woman as it is telling trans people they need to justify their own existence
8) Sometimes, the people may talk about how hard it is to live with dysphoria. These are in the minority now I think, as most supporters will acknowledge there is no need for dysphoria, no need for the trans woman to feel uncomfortable about his penis, or even to want to take estrogen, His claim of being a woman is enough. IT's nt just that they don't know what the man means, or why he thinks some feeling he has makes him a woman, they don't care. The man who feels a woman is a gaping vacant hole to be penetrated and so wants to be one, and the girl who doesn't want to be objectified so thinks she is a bot are just the same to these awful people - insert image
10) Science. Occasionally, there may be some ill thought out reference to science. Many trans people don't like this, because as with defining it, it would mean many people claiming trans status are not really trans. But not only does the science not hold up - there are no brain scans that can identify any trans people, it's also irrelevant. Finding an area of the brain that is more similar to women than men in trans women doesn't tell us that this does anything, or give us any reason for using this as what makes someone a woman. IT also harks back to the idea of male and female brains, that men are good at some things, and women at others. The misogyny is never far away with trans supporters
