@elonmusk Academia is also the place where we unlock the secrets of life and the universe, harness our immune system to fight disease, and advance all aspects of life. It really all comes down to personal motivation and integrity. "The scientist is the true warrior" - Aaron Ciechanover

Academia and some “think tanks” are the origin of the extinctionist mind viruses
Gad Saad@GadSaad

Every single dreadful parasitic idea that is destroying the West stems from academia. It begins there but then these ideas escape the Ivory Tower and parasitize everything. @realDonaldTrump's victory on Tuesday is good news in that the majority of decent people reject this nonsense BUT the battle won't be won until all of these ideas are permanently eradicated along with the reflex for suicidal empathy. Hence, the current victory is great but step 1 of a very long process of de-lobotomizing all of academia and its offshoot intelligentsia.

@WiringTheBrain Very useful framework to think about proteins. Perhaps we can put another layer onto it - structural flexibility. Enzymes and receptors should fall on the right side of this axis, while unstructured proteins should fall on the left, and potentially display more properties

A lot of molecular and cell and developmental biology is concerned with figuring out the "functions" of various proteins. I'm starting to distrust that formulation...

Why are there so few drugs that target innate immune signaling pathways? Maybe bc we know so little about the natural protein interactions (and dynamics) that mediate innate immunity. A bottleneck for drug discovery may be understanding endogenous innate immune cell biology.

Move over STING, TRIF and MAVS. IRSp53 and GMIP join the club of pLxIS proteins that stimulate interferons. So pleased to share our new study, which used synthetic biology to reveal multiple mechanisms that lead to anti-viral immunity. With a surprising link to metabolism.

Very excited to share our paper showing that IL-18 activation of the salt transporter NCC programs durable immune tolerance in the gut! We found that NCC induces a metabolic switch in macrophages that stabilizes fatty acid oxidation and prevents glycolytic reprogramming ⬇️
