But coaches in general, see the post loss UNC press conference, need some extra press relations work. I guess we watch to see the train wrecks as much as legit curiosity? The statements by the Michigan player are news. They are legitimately the subject of inquiry. If the answer is "no we did not offer" that is a frank answer. It the answer is "yes" then that is an honest answer. The answer could be, "we are always in negotiations with players and their agents and will not discuss specifics because that hurts future negotiations" I would accept that as well. But some version of "the on line press sucks" is not. And it reflects a "circle the wagons in the bunker" (sic) mentality. "I have not seen them" answer to a question about an injured player was another answer I disliked. "We don't talk about medical issues" would have been better. Let's learn from "losing the fax". Better to live with the repercussions of a frank, honest answer than continue to deflect and dissemble and feed the fires of speculation.
