On May 15, 2026, Justice Clarence Thomas gave one of the great American speeches. In it, he explained THE American philosophy - the values articulated in the Declaration of Independence. He shared not only how those values shaped America, and justified our great moral successes, but also how they personally shaped his life. He grew up in the segregated South, in an era when the Government considered him less than equal. But understanding that our rights ultimately come from God, who granted us equal moral dignity, he knew that the government lacked the power to make him less than what he was, no matter how much he was oppressed. It was this American ethos that justified abolition, that was appealed to by Abraham Lincoln, Fredrick Douglas and Martin Luthor King Jr. It is this ethos which is under assault today. But there is no progress beyond the values in the Declaration. They are final. And those who promise such progress are not progressive, they are reactionaries, seeking to steal your God given rights from you tomorrow in exchange for a bit of comfort today. It's a speech everyone should watch. As he exposed the unAmerican philosophy seeking to undermine our values and way of life. Which, of course, is why you will see the full bag of dirty tricks unleashed against him in the coming days. Do yourself a favor. Watch it for yourself, and see what these dangerous, glorious, American ideas truly are. My full reaction below.
