Difficultly outside of bosses should drive character development not hitting an unexpected wall. If the player doesn’t know what to do, that’s the devs fault.

@pokemantis @Khatspergers That’s not bad game design that’s literally considered the gold standard you start weak you power up to defeat regular enemies easily then you hit boss which is a massive jump in difficulty you power up defeat boss next enemies are easier than boss but harder than first enemies.

After wasting 20 minutes slamming his head into a boss with nothing but starter gear, Phil concludes that Crimson Desert is not a good game and rage quits.

You know I think video game discourse would be better if more people realized that not every game ever released needs to be for you and they all have different target audiences

@ArcEon00 @idonotexistelol No. It doesn't explain what the game is. You don't know which elements of action and adventure were combined to make the game. Therefore, action adventure is not a useful term for describing a game. It might include many different elements, but we don't know which ones.

When a game mixes both action and adventure it becomes its own genre, because it is not just one and changes the feel of the game.

@OBPerformer @idonotexistelol Not exactly. Because a sandbox is different than an open world. A sandbox is an area that you can play around it. You can explore that area that could have structures however it isn't the same as an open world. Along with the fact the two can be mixed together.

That's why we actually have more refined definitions like combat, fighting, turn-based, exploration, puzzle, narrative, environmental, etc. All of which would fall under action adventure.

I explained the differences in size and different types of explorable areas. However those are not part of rpgs

@ArcEon00 @idonotexistelol An open world game is one where a player can go to any part of the game whenever they want. Many open world games don't let you do that. They restrict your access to places using artificial mechanics, like keys and invisible walls.

@ArcEon00 @idonotexistelol It is the responsibility of the company trying to get my money to explain what they're selling. If I put in research like going to their website and don't see an explanation as to what they're selling. That's on them.

@ArcEon00 @idonotexistelol OMG. We just agreed that there are no choices we can make in games. Now you are saying we can make choices. Either we can make choices or we can't. The outcomes of choice is irrelevant.

@OBPerformer @idonotexistelol By your definition every game is an RPG. However noticed how I never brought up Witcher, KCD2, BG3. Because those are rpgs. They have a lot of role play elements and not just a few.
