Tesla's April 2026 China sales fell 9.7% year-on-year. This will accelerate. $TSLA is exporting its "excess capacity" as the anti-China propagandists use to say. Exports climbed, though this is a factor of things like: 1) Tesla is practicing Chinese prices outside China, and the others don't do that due to transportation costs and tariffs (funny enough, this is more akin to dumping than anyone else is doing, but only the Chinese get accused of it) 2) China is sending more cars from China to markets which were usually supplied from the US, including Canada, so this likely means Tesla factories ex-China are under greater pressure and seeing lower sales. Selling cars outside China at Chinese prices is bad for margins. In Q1 that was obscured by one-off gains (tariff returns, warranty reserve release),in Q2 who knows. Tesla is also doing something else - it's putting inferior batteries made in the US on cars for export. Why would it do that? Well, because these batteries are wildly subsidized in the US, with each battery receiving subsidies of as much as nearly the entire price of an entire entry-level EV in China.

@johnennis People losing jobs over likes I’d imagine is anecdotal and sparse data. API diffusion analysis can locate your account as a node and every other node with whom you interact to map you and them. Then zoom out and nudge any narrative or inject one into that map. That’s real power

Ein Freund von mir, mit einem Tesla Model S arbeitet beim Dekra und ist oft als unabhängiger Zeuge / Gutachter bei solchen Tests dabei. Ich habe nach seiner Meinung gefragt und er meinte: Billiges Marketing.
Seit vielen Jahren wird Radar verwendet um vor einem starken Aufprall die Gurte zu straffen, Sitz und Lenkrad zu verstellen. Airbags darf man nicht zu früh zünden, sonst verlieren sie an Effektivität. Je nach Aufprallgeschwindigkeit, Größe des Airbags und etliche andere Parameter müssen sie sogar absichtlich später gezündet werden. Im Video wird sogar gesagt, dass die Airbags immer noch durch die Sensoren ausgelöst werden.
Tesla hat das Radar weggelassen und damit den Gurtstraffer und andere Dinge schlechter gemacht als die Konkurrenz. Jetzt könnten sie damit wieder vielleicht gleich gut sein, vielleicht auch nicht.
Volvo und Mercedes S Klasse verwenden zusätzlich noch Lidar um Gurtstraffer und Co noch präziser zu dosieren. Seiner Meinung nach erkennt man aber keinen Unterschied zur Konkurrenz.
Mobileye hat das Feature wohl schon sehr lange und hat einen Patent drauf, so dass günstige Autos ohne Radar auch davon profitieren können. Zumindest wenn der OEM nicht zu geizig ist das Feature mit zu bestellen...

Ich bin etwas skeptisch. Tesla will mit Vision Only Airbags bis zu 70ms schneller auslösen. Prinzipiell finde ich es mega genial. Jede ms zählt. Da wir aber alle wissen wie zuverlässig regenerkennung und schilder Erkennung funktioniert, frage ich mich wie man false positive erkennen will. Ist bisschen blöd, wenn ohne Grund auf einmal die Airbags auf gehen.

Elon Musk just revealed what’s actually holding AI back.
It’s not chips. Not models. Not data.

Someone asked him the obvious question. Why not just build private power plants next to data centers? Bypass the grid entirely.

There aren’t enough of them.
You can design the best chip on earth. Train a frontier model. Raise $10 billion for a hyperscale data center.
None of it matters if you can’t power it.

GPUs need power. Power needs turbines. Turbines need factories. Factories need permits. Permits need a government that hasn’t paralyzed itself.
Every link in the chain is physical. And every one of them is breaking.
We can train a frontier model in weeks. We can’t permit a power plant in under five years.
The country that invented the assembly line now needs 40 agencies to approve a gas turbine.
China doesn’t have this problem. They don’t run 7-year environmental reviews on infrastructure they need tomorrow. They break ground while America requests approval to break ground.
The AI race won’t be decided by whoever writes the best algorithm.
It’ll be decided by whoever can still build in the physical world.
We spent 30 years getting faster in software and slower in steel. Outsourcing manufacturing. Hollowing out supply chains. Treating builders like liabilities instead of assets.
Now the bill is due.
Every breakthrough in AI is gated by atoms. Steel. Concrete. Turbines that take years to manufacture and decades to approve.
The smartest code on earth is worthless without electricity.
Musk didn’t give a speech about this. He didn’t need to. He answered one question and the whole infrastructure myth collapsed.
“Where do you get the power plants from?”
Follow that thread far enough and you stop finding a technology problem.
You find a civilization that mastered thinking and forgot how to build.

Unreal. OOS just tested the new BOLT and it has a better charging curve than the new @Tesla Performance Model Y. At the same SOC my car is only able to pull 105kW.
