Under the JCPOA, Barack Obama released Iran’s frozen assets after securing strict nuclear limits and intrusive inspections.
Donald Trump spent years attacking that as a “gift to terrorists.” Today, he’s opening the floodgates for billions in new Iranian revenue with no concessions, no nuclear restrictions, and no leverage because he’s desperate to ease political pressure over gas prices.
If returning Iran’s own funds after securing nuclear oversight outraged you, but offering billions with no strings attached doesn’t, then the reaction was never about policy. It was about partisanship.

In launching a war with Iran, President Trump somehow failed to prepare for a huge spike in gas prices at home. Now, after lifting sanctions on Russia, he’s lifting sanctions on Iran. This allows the U.S. to purchase Iranian oil for the first time since the 1990s. The President is giving billions of dollars and a financial lifeline to the same people who are shooting at and killing U.S. forces.

Donald Trump is a man of very low character whose whole life demonstrates it.
Robert Mueller was a man of very high character whose whole life demonstrated it.
The great division in our country is between people who understand these basic facts, and those who reject them.
From the citation accompanying the Bronze Star (with V for combat valor) that Marine Second Lieutenant Robert Mueller received for his actions in 1968, during the Vietnam War—the war Trump avoided:
“With complete disregard for his own safety, he then skillfully supervised the evacuation of casualties from the hazardous area and, on one occasion, personally led a fire team across the fire-swept area terrain to recover a mortally wounded Marine who had fallen in a position forward of the friendly lines.”
Months later, still serving our country in the war that Trump avoided, Mueller was wounded again, shot in the leg.
“I consider myself exceptionally lucky to have made it out of Vietnam,” Mueller told author Garrett Graff years later. “There were many—many—who did not. And perhaps because I did survive Vietnam, I have always felt compelled to contribute."
Robert Mueller went on to serve our country honorably in many other ways. His rock-solid integrity as a public official—and as a private citizen—will stand as an example and inspiration to all who learn about him, long after Donald Trump is gone.
