@brycent I 100% disagree for tech startups. It's very true for most cases, but sales can only get you so far!

Most startups don't have a product problem They have a go-to-market problem And that goes beyond just hosting events, vibing on X, or posting on socials Genuine GTM starts with building an incredible sales process.

@austinxwalker This is also how you build a great company. Just don't talk to VCs, they will judge you on something they know nothing about. Just take money from friends & customers you trust.

try to kill your startup idea. - talk to hundreds of people who are experts in your space. - ask them to tear it apart, and tell you why it won’t work. - if, after all of this, you're still excited to build, you might just be onto something.

I tried asking myself what I'd learned after 40, and it turned out to be a lot of the most important stuff I know. At least 90% of what I know about startups, because I was 40 when we started YC. Plus everything I know about parenting and most of what I know about writing.

@MartinGTobias That is incorrect. Speak into existence. You can easily Action yourself into a vision less demise.

If I had a nonprofit, I’d recruit all the OGs retiring now from companies like Databricks and I’d involve them with underfunded sectors to help them adopt AI Spoke with some AI GOATs from Databricks and they told me separately they all don’t want to be retired and want to help people adopt AI One of them is starting work at an immigration non profit. Find these people, give them purpose and change the world for the better

@garrytan I can't tell you how many customers have told us how much a founder promised them but larp'd the opportunity away. Trust is the new capital.

@ycombinator @garrytan love the speed! unfortunately none of my work is on linkedin atm. here’s some stuff about me that you won’t find on my application: didn’t go to an ivy league. didn’t work at a faang. that was never my race. built 2 companies- i’ve raised money, hired people, fired people, failed, gotten back up. learnt so much more about startups than what working at a big tech would’ve taught me. im going to win

You will never be enough for anyone. Just be yourself, pre-seed is about wasting your time until you die. I can't tell you how many times I have been told to come back with a customer, when you do they want 10 more. Just go build a company. Its less dilutive. No excuses. No BS.

At pre-seed, founder intensity is often more legible than the market. Look at what someone has already done without permission, how deeply they understand the problem, and whether they seem unable to let it go.

@hthieblot We don't learn suffering, we learn from the suffering. Those who suffer longer learn more, those who don't quit succeed over time. When you meet with a founder, the question is if they have suffered enough for those learnings and can you help them reach their goals faster.

Every great founder learns to suffer. The rejections. The flat metrics. The 3 AM ceiling stares wondering if you’re delusional. Embrace it. High pain tolerance is one of the few advantages competitors can’t copy. Don’t seek ease. Seek strength.

@OhioScientist @JasonrShuman What’s hard to understand? “We build agents” ‘ok. vague, crowded. We pass’ “We build agents that reach out to dentist’s patients with unscheduled procedures, upping revenue 40%, built by partnering with clinics to defragment pricing data”. ‘Narrative makes sense, let’s meet’

@JoshConstine @JasonrShuman Narrative is for crypto projects, everyone loses except the founders. From our convos with Fortune customers, we found most startups backed by VCs are not fulfilling the deals they give them. I argue narrative is the worst benchmark.
