@JasonGregor Only cup roster in last 25 years led by stars who were at all considered “soft” was DET. They were tough down the roster, and Zet+Dats were elite two way players. Matthews has that, Nylander doesn’t. Also missing a Lindstrom. Still not impossible for them to put it together

Not sure why people are surprised by no response from TOR after hit on Matthews. That is their culture. They have a few guys like McCabe and Domi, who will stand up, but their leadership core never has. You can change coach, GM all you like, but they don't set the on-ice tone.

If they wanted a trade partner, I wonder about someone like Toronto for this, we won't love the contract that comes back, but it gives both guys a change of scenery and opens up some cap flexibility for the Oilers. Also could use that to fill their 3C need as well:

@OilersEvery_Day Sorry but people need to quit pointing at the bottom six players every year and perhaps point at a system that continually struggles to get the most from their depth players. This is a systemic issue, not an individual issue I believe.
