Have you been to an IVF clinic? It cost me $18,000 to do IVF for my wife at age 34. Out of the three eggs that were inserted, only one worked. We were lucky becuse she was born with a lot of eggs and they had plenty to remove and fertilize. I can’t count how many hundreds of women were in that clinic going through IVF, all there with their husbands. That place was always packed with women. Women in their late 20s and 30s. Some even flew from another state cause it’s cheaper there. In fact, my wife’s friend already had two kids and was trying IVF for a girl at 33, but her eggs were of poor quality and none of them worked. The reality is that women don’t always talk about what they go through to get pregnant. People just see a 35-year-old woman having a baby and assume it happened naturally. When it was my turn in the process, all they needed from me was to ejaculate, and I wasn’t needed again after that. Meanwhile, the women had to take an entire box of medication. And even then, some attempts still failed. You can’t compare the two processes. If a man has low sperm quality, in many cases it can improve with lifestyle changes. But if a woman has poor egg quality, it is far more complex, expensive, and difficult to treat. It’s basic biology: men produce millions of sperm continuously, while women are born with all their eggs and lose them over time. This is why even an 80-year-old man, like Al Pacino, can still father a child. That’s just biology.

The surgeon who can't stop thinking about work will build a "mud room" to separate the inside from the outside. The former academic will design a reading corner. Don't get me started on home gyms and man caves. With enough money and time, the rich crystalize their hopes, fears, and neuroses into drywall and square footage.

serious question for people with older kids: do i live in the best school zip code in the state but 40 min drive from both sets of parents and siblings or 5 minutes from them but in a mid school zone and try to figure something out. 3 kids. oldest 4

Woke up at 5 to go to work. Oldest son got out of bed to hang out with me. I eventually get to the sunroom & about to leave. Me: Okay bud, now that I’m leaving, you need to either play downstairs or go back to bed. Which is it? Son: Um, I would like to say bye to you. Me: Oh right. Of course. Kid gives me a big hug, then just sits in a chair in the sunroom. While I’m backing out of the driveway, he walks over to a window & waves at me nonstop until I’m gone. It’s difficult to explain why, but that whole interaction made the whole day worth it.

Women love to create little tests like "what is the right milk" and then berate the men in their lives for not passing those tests. It's cute if you realize that's what's happening.

@Empty_America They go to daycare or school at 730 and come home at 430, then they go to bed at 830 after family time. You reduce your hobby time to compensate.

I actually don't understand how people raise kids with both parents in full time jobs. I don't mean that I spiritually don't get it, I mean that I cannot picture how it's physically/logistically done. Interestingly, I don't know anyone actually doing this!

As I’ve said before, this is poorly understood by folks: the higher taxes already are, the more additional taxes bite (and provoke behavioral responses), because they claim a bigger chunk of disposable income.
