In 2017, as acting ICE Director, Tom Homan chose to spread disinfo about the California wildfires saying an undocumented immigrant had started them. He went on to attack the local Sheriff's office, while they were in the middle of dealing with responding to this natural disaster, asking them to hand over the individual to ICE. The immigrant had NOTHING to do with the wildfires. Those of us working at DHS who were actually committed to homeland security watched this with horror internally as it played out. Remember this going forward when things like this happen again.

This will be a post that will piss everyone off, and I welcome it but here it is. Based on data we are learning, this isn't a blowout Trump win. Numbers don't back it up. Not a landslide. Not a damning referendum. Harris didn't run a terrible campaign. In fact impressive considering she had 2.5 months and got close in a post pandemic environment where nearly every incumbent got destroyed. She did much better than Biden would've based on internal Dem polls. Yes, she made mistakes and Dems must improve and Biden made mistakes. All true. But Dems also picked up seats in swing states and won on abortion rights and against school vouchers. People who had correct facts about economy, crime, immigration, inflation and trans issues overwhelmingly went Harris. Those who didn't? Trump. Her policies when presented blindly to Trump supporters were popular to them. People are missing the post pandemic reality, the power of racism and identity politics of Trump's campaign, the failures of corporate media and influence of right wing disinformation as major factors. RIP my mentions.

Latest numbers: across the seven battleground states, the '20-'24 swing towards Trump was ~3.1 pts. Across the other 43 states (+DC), it was ~6.7 pts. Bottom line: the Harris campaign swam impressively against some very strong underlying currents.

There will be a lot of soul-searching among Democrats, as there should be. Those who criticize Joe Biden for not dropping out earlier, or Kamala Harris for her campaign, are looking in the wrong place. This was a broader rejection ofe ruling elites. 1

@AdamrR83 @OneLifeInspired @AndySpecht Seriously, people are so surprised that not every voters just looks at the letter next to someone's name and votes all one way or the other. There's bad people on both sides and you don't have to vote for them just cause of party.
