@dhh @SebJohnsonUK 400+ years of the most adventurous and entrepreneurial Europeans moving to the New World would probably result in a significant reduction of entrepreneurial culture. Risk tolerance is a heritable trait.

@SebJohnsonUK I fear what Europe is lacking is the culture of entrepreneurship more so than the ecosystem. The latter is just downstream from said culture of risk-adverse, status-quo seeking, tall-poppy cutting Europeans and the governments they elect.

Europe produces 24% of the world's unicorn founders. OpenAI, Stripe, Shopify, Palantir, Databricks, CrowdStrike, Snowflake, all have a European cofounder. The problem is they all go the US to build their company. In Europe it demonstrates what we already know - that we have talent and we have the ambition. We just don't have the ecosystem to support those with talent and ambition. Data from @yoramdw and the @dealroomco team.

As the @POTUS noted today, defense companies have taken advantage for far too long with contracts behind schedule and over budget. It’s time to hold industry accountable, share risk, and invest back into the ecosystem that sustains our national defense.

@chadwahl This is true in our mundane world of HR Tech. Everyone is trying to make recruiters more efficient at sourcing without asking "why not have your hiring managers do the sourcing?" So many opportunities for process elimination NOT process improvement.

Managerial Technology focuses on decisions as the output. For example, I build a report with a KPI that shows the yield of how I am turning raw materials into finished goods. I want to hit my target KPI based on my engineering standards. This has been a primary focus of analytics and business intelligence for the past 20 years. It’s not wrong, but it’s only one part of the picture. In reality, it should be a byproduct, not the product. Operational Technology focuses on the micro-decisions and actions that influence what the KPI ultimately reflects. It also takes the output of those actions and feeds them back as input to drive better decisions—think OODA Loops (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act). For example, as an operator on the plant floor, if I run out of a raw material to produce a product, which alternative material should I use to achieve the best yield without stripping other products of the raw materials they need? How do I globally optimize that micro-decision, which operators make hundreds or thousands of times a day, to improve my yield KPI? Done right Managerial Tech should be a byproduct of Operational Tech. Focusing solely on Managerial Technology is like trying to win a game by watching the scoreboard. Operational Technology is the live playbook that helps you make the right calls to win the game. Operational Technology rapidly learns from actions and feedback, allowing you to move quicker, adapt, and optimize across your connected business, not just a siloed business process or application. It considers the knock-on effects of these decisions and how they impact the entire business, not just the KPI I am locally responsible for.

Forty years ago the average profit margin in the S&P500 was ~6%. Today its ~12%. But the best companies have ~30%+ profit margins. What's difference between the best and the rest? The best made critical decisions to not be tied to the Software Industrial Complex ("SIC") because it costs a lot of money and creates complexity that needs headcount to solve. Instead, they internally built systems to solve their explicit needs. Gartner Magic Quadrants are an organized grift. An infinite number of vertical tools create sprawl. In combination, companies are leaking enormous amounts of margin to companies in the SIC. Most Corporate IT budgets are inflated by 100-300%. If CEOs, CFOs or shareholders actually knew that there was a fork in the road - for companies to go to the upper right vs the bottom right that could a) increase their operating margins by 500-1000% b) have a more efficient company and c) their employees would be happier because their tools wouldn't suck, I think they would all move towards it. AI is creating this fork in the road right now. 8090 is at the center of it. We are helping companies across all major parts of the US economy (Healthcare, Financial Services, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Insurance, Power, Hospitality, Real Estate and more) to make this shift. 8090 powered Companies are saving money and time, creating flexibility and efficiency and increasing day to day satisfaction of their employees. We are growing quickly but are buried in work. We need help. If you are a developer that a) wants to work at the leading edge of building complex production code for important companies b) build complex abstractions that allow us to operate on agent-time vs human-time and c) want unfettered technical freedom, we're hiring. More info to come shortly. Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you if you consider working with us.
