My 2023 recap as an artist: ⦿ Facilitated a lot of really intense private suspension sessions, and changed some lives for the better. It changed me for the better. ⦿ Created Vøid Passenger - one of my more conceptual pieces in a couple years - and it got sold for 1+ ETH during the bear (thx Robek) ⦿ Got to install, and perform at some really beautiful events in NYC, and really upgraded my live rigging skills. ⦿ Leaned in really, really hard on Iterative and runtime art, and found my love for programming rekindled. I'm also convinced generative art is going to be huge in 2024. ⦿ Redefined and re-affirmed my roles and relationships with some amazing online communities. ⦿ Realized that every sigh of relief is a signal to keep going, and not get too cozy. Time is always in short supply. ⦿ Cut off a lot of dead weight - humans, affiliations, and even eating habits. Most folks are simply not on your team. It was a very rough year that turned into a really good one in the second half. I want to say I enjoyed the battle, but I did not. In the last few years, things happened IRL that really hurt, took a massive toll on my mental health, and negatively impacted almost all aspects of my life. Now, looking back, after a very strong finish for the year, I am grateful for my ability to provide valuable experiences for others (it's an absolute gift), to be able to create art on my own terms (it's an absolute privilege), and for the support network I have found myself surrounded with (it's an absolute honor). Mostly, I'm thankful for the clarity I have, because I realize a vast majority of folks out in the world aren't afforded this privilege. Over the years, I am repeatedly reminded of the lesson that you are driving around a meat vessel held together by a flimsy bag made of skin, while pondering the meaning of literally anything the vehicle you are piloting is capable of perceiving or experiencing. It's fucking ridiculous. Pain is an illusion. And there is no meaning to anything at all unless you choose to give it context. So go give things context. Create meaning. Make good art about it. Fuck around and find out as much as you can. I'll be focusing on two of the most ambitious projects I've come up with in 2024. I hope you will be along for the ride.
