Just like trump said, the ballroom will cost $100 million and all $200 million of it will be privately funded. Taxpayers won't pay a cent of the $300 million because all $400 million of it will come from donations. Only $1 billion will have to come from the taxpayers.

@caityweaver @mckaycoppins My wife and I care A LOT about the quality of the free bread at restaurants we frequent, so you already had me with the basic premise. But your wonderful and witty writing put it over the top. Loved it.

Fetterman: They are making it like there's kind of an energy crisis and that is just not true. I just tested that this morning. I gassed up my Jeep at Costco—I effectively paid $3.80 for a gallon. Two years ago, it was $3.65.

@mattyglesias @DavidAFrench Not to mention the absurd, in-your-face irony of an American politician telling Hungarians not to listen to foreigners trying to tell them what to do.

This can turn out to be really bad, seriously. Those M&M's falling thousands of feet to the ground can cause some damage, especially if they hit somebody. People need to use their brain a bit more before doing things for content... 🤬

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

Trump: What’s your message to people concerned over gas prices? Leavitt: We understand your concerns and we are taking them into account. This is a temporary short-term disruption in global oil prices that the president is ultimately going to rectify by wiping out the rogue Iranian terrorist regime. The fact that the terrorists are holding the global oil industry hostage by threatening to shut down the Strait of Hormuz underscores the need for President Trump to launch this operation the first place

@Angry_Staffer @JenniferEValent I wish reporters would just focus on the shoe thing with these guys when they do pressers: “Are you allowed to go buy the same shoes in your actual size, or is that a faux pas?” “Have you had to change your wardrobe to match the shoes?” “Has Goodwill received your other shoes?”

I keep seeing people ask about the 25th Amendment. Guys. His entire Cabinet is walking around in shoes that don’t fit because they’re scared to take them off. The 25th is never happening.

Just days ago, we found out that Trump is circulating an executive order claiming that China interfered in the 2020 election as a pretext to declare a national emergency and ultimately to declare extraordinary presidential powers over voting. Then today, as the US bombed Iran, Trump posted: "Iran tried to interfere in 2020, 2024 elections to stop Trump, and now faces renewed war with United States." Trump is VERY clearly looking for claims of foreign interference to serve as a basis to declare a national emergency and usurp control of the upcoming election. He has threatened the nationalize the election for months. This is how he's going to try and do it. Don't let him fool you. Trump is nothing if not self-interested; he's doing all of this to help himself and consolidate his grip on power.

ROBERTS: If you cut something by 100%, the cost goes down to 0. If you cut it by 600%, the drug companies are actually paying you to take their product. So it raises the question -- how much of last night's speech was hyperbole? LUTNICK: No. What he's saying is if a drug was $100 and you bring the drug down to $13, if you're looking at it from $13, it's down 7 times ROBERTS: It's not a 600% cut LUTNICK: But it's 700% higher price before. It's down 700% now. So $13 would have to go up 700% to get back to the old one. So it all depends on when you look at it.

@RadioFreeTom Trump really represents the worst of us. But there should be everlasting shame for those who aid and abet him, or just stand by and pointedly ignore the horror show because it brings them money or power.

@ruthbenghiat I strongly suspect that one thing Putin and Trump discussed was to focus on each major power’s local neighborhood and not worry about what’s happening on the far side of the world, from Trump’s perspective.

👀 Keep U.S. Navy busy there for years so they are not deployed in the Pacific, and China can more easily move on Taiwan. Same for Europe and Eurasia with Russia. Solving autocrats' problems is a major mandate of this administration.

@JustinWolfers This is MUCH more likely an attempt by Trump to squeeze money out of the insurance companies for his own personal benefit. He must feel that they have been too stingy in bribing him. Honestly.

Econ 101 midterm question: Based on what you know about risk pools and adverse selection in healthcare markets, will giving people money instead of giving them money to buy health insurance lead these markets to function more effectively, or will it just lead more people to be uninsured?
