Got contacted about a job that seemed interesting, did a pair of solid interviews with the hiring agency, got told the employer didn't want to meet me because they didn't want someone with a "second career online". I assume they googled my name and found a couple of the published defence-related pieces under my name. But, "second career" is a hilarious exaggeration.

This is wild. 😳 @MLInstitute has revealed that a “hostile foreign intelligence service had cloned (their) website… to recruit Canadians to supply sensitive and even classified information by offering research and other contracts that appeared to be from reputable and prestigious Canada think tank.” MLI deserves huge credit for being a clear, principled voice calling out the aggressive behaviour and foreign interference of the Chinese, Russian and Iranian dictatorships. This scheme underscores how some foreign powers engage in aggressive espionage in Canada with impunity.
