In 1942, the Japanese rounded up all Chinese men in Singapore. They were filtering out the healthy young ones to execute. Lee Kuan Yew was 18. A guard pointed at him and said: "Go to that lorry." He knew what that meant. The lorry went to the beaches. The beaches meant machine guns. He asked: "Can I collect my other things?" They said yes. He walked away, found his family's gardener, and hid in his quarters for two days. When they changed the screening inspectors, he tried again. This time, he got through. The ones sent to that lorry were taken to the beaches and shot. Somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000 didn't survive. 60 years later, he sat down at Harvard to explain how he built Singapore from a tiny island into one of the wealthiest nations on Earth: On what the war did to him: "We lived in happy, placid colonial Singapore in the 1920s and 30s. The British Empire would have lasted another thousand years, so we thought." Then the Japanese came. In less than one and a half months, the British collapsed. "Three and a half years of hell. Butchery. Brutality. Many didn't survive. I was fortunate. I did." "But it changed us." "What right did they have to do this to us? Why did the British let us down so badly?" When the war ended, Lee went to Cambridge to study law. But he was watching with different eyes. "Can they govern me better than I can govern myself? Because they scooted when the Japanese came in. And why shouldn't I be running the place?" On learning languages to lead: Lee was the best speaker in English. But only 20% of Singapore spoke English. The masses spoke Hokkien, Mandarin, and Malay. "So every day at lunchtime, instead of having lunch, I would sit down with a Hokkien teacher and laboriously and painfully learn to convert my Mandarin into Hokkien." "Had I not mastered that, the battle would be lost by default." His first speech in Hokkien, the kids laughed at him. "I said, please don't laugh. Help me. I'm trying to get you to understanding." By 6 months, he could get his ideas across. By 2 years, he was fluent. "Believe it or not, at the end of two years I could speak better than most of them." "That came respect." It showed two things: how determined he was, and how sincere. Here was a man doing all these other things and still learning their language just to talk to them. On fighting the Communists: The Communists had been organizing since 1923. The year Lee was born. "Here we were in the 1950s trying to beat them. And they are professionals at organization." They had elimination squads. Guerrillas in the jungle. Killer squads in the towns. Lee stood up and said no. "They denied that they were Communists. 'We're just left-wing socialists.' So I did a series of 12 broadcasts to set the scene. And I made it in three languages." English. Malay. Mandarin. 20 minutes each. "When I finished each broadcast, the director of the station couldn't see me. Went into the room and found me lying on the floor trying to recover my breath." "But it was a fight for survival. Life or death." On where trust comes from: "It's difficult to establish trust in times of calm. You just say, 'Well, it's an argument, therefore I'm a better guy than you.'" "But when the chips are down and you can get eliminated in a very unpleasant way and you show that you're prepared for it and you'll fight for them, it makes a difference." "Without that trust, we could not have built Singapore." On IQ vs EQ: Harvard asked him: would you prefer high IQ or high EQ in a leader? "IQ, you can get beautiful paper done. Complex formulas worked out. Elegant solutions." "But when you've got to get a team to work and put that formula into practice, you're dealing with human beings." "If you're not good at EQ, you can't sense that A doesn't get on with B, and you put them in the same team. It's no good." He rated his own EQ as 7 or 8 out of 10. His IQ as "maybe 120." But he had colleagues who could sense a person instantly. "He shook hands with the man and said, 'I recoiled when I felt his palm. Evil man.' And he was. How does he know? I don't know." "So I learned whenever I had to do interviews to choose people, I would get people who are very good at seeing through a candidate." On corruption: Singapore in the 1950s was full of deals, bribes, and organized crime. "When we took over, we decided that this was the critical factor. If we did not make it so that every dollar put in at the top reaches the ground as one dollar, we're not going to succeed." "We came in and made a symbolic act. We dressed in white shirts, white trousers, and said we will be what we represent." He put the anti-corruption bureau under his personal portfolio. "I gave the director the authority to investigate everybody and everything. All ministers. Including myself." One of his own colleagues took half a million in bribes. When the investigation started, he asked to see Lee. "I said, if I see you then I'll be a witness in court. So best not see me. Better see your lawyer." The man committed suicide. Left a note saying: "As an oriental gentleman who believes in honor, I have to pay the supreme price." "It's a heavy price. But it reminds every minister that there are no exceptions." On consistency: Lee had three journalists analyze 40 years of his speeches. He asked them: what was the dominant theme? All three said the same thing: consistency. "What I said at the beginning, throughout all that period, the theme stayed loud and clear." "That made it simple. Because you know where you stand with me. And you know what I want to do." On delivering results: "We deliver the homes, the schools, the jobs, the hospitals." "Today, 98% of our people own their own homes. The smallest would be about $100,000 US. The biggest about $300,000." "Once you own that amount of assets, you are not in favor of risking it with a crazy government. Your assets will go down in value." "But that was planned." Why? Because Singapore is small. Everyone does national service. If you're going to fight, you better be fighting for something you own. "So we give everybody a stake." On changing culture slowly: Lee wanted Singapore to speak English. But he couldn't force it. "Had I passed a law and said you will all learn English, we would have had mayhem. Riots." Instead, he let parents watch who got the best jobs. The jobs were already there, from the multinationals and banks. They all used English. "They watched and saw who got the best jobs. And they switched." It took 16 years. "I did not want to have said 16 years. Because in those 16 years I lost 20,000 Chinese graduates who had poor jobs. I wanted to make it shorter. I couldn't. I would have run into flack." On whether leadership can be taught: Lee quoted Isaac Singer, the Nobel Prize winner for Yiddish literature. Someone asked Singer: "Can you make a writer write great literature?" He paused. Then said: "If he has the writer in him, I will make him a good writer in a shorter time." Lee's version: "Can you make a leader of anybody? I don't think so." "He must have some of the ingredients. He must have that high energy level. He must have the ability to project himself, his ideas. He must have the desire, almost instinctively, to say 'let's do something better.' Of wanting to do something for his fellow men and not just for himself and his family." "You can't teach those things. He's either got it or he hasn't got it." "But if he's got that, then you can save him a lot of trouble." On sustaining yourself: Harvard asked how he managed despair over decades of leadership. "If your message is one of despair, then you should not be a leader. You must give people hope." "But there are moments when you feel very down. Either because you're physically down, or emotionally down, or because the world has turned adverse against you." "When you are in that condition, the first thing you do is get a good night's sleep. Then get a swim or chase a ball. Get the cobwebs out of your mind." "If you're not fit, you're going to make mistakes. Physically fit. You must stay physically and mentally fit." In his later years, he learned to meditate. "At the end of 20 minutes to half an hour, my pulse rate can go down from 100 to about 60. You can feel yourself subside. You still your mind. You empty your mind." "Then when you are rested, you resume quietly. You still got the same problems. Maybe you sleep on it. Come back. Look at it for a few days. Then decide." This 2 hour Harvard interview will teach you more about leadership than every business book you've read combined. Bookmark & give it 2 hours this weekend, no matter what.

This is nothing short of a miracle. Dr John Campbell breaks down the study of an 83yr old woman with stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasised to the liver, spine and bones. Usually a death sentence. She took a daily dose of 222mg of FenBen for 8 months. Which normalised her liver enzymes. The tumor marker dropped from 316 to 36. There was an absence of any abnormal metabolic activity indicative of cancer. Please like, share, and follow my page. Information like this need to be heard and seen by everyone.

We are called “Randi” online. It’s a tragic reality of our times. That’s what the internet is. But that you were called one cannot be your primary argument to prove yourself right. You glorified a religion which explicitly mandates that you, as a “proud Hindu” be raped, converted or killed. So shut up with your victim card. Stop whining. You say “Religion is respect” and then glorify one which murders and rapes hindu women EVERYDAY. You are garbage, Namita.

I left for bombay at 6.30 am like the hard working professional that I am & stopped the car at 7 am to make this reel as I’ve long realised that silence is not a virtue & one must speak up when they are disrespected. Yes if wrong things happen at any workplace that are against basic human rights, me & all of us should speak up. I don’t care about the personal trolling, I’m used to it last 5 years since shark tank but the purpose of this reel is to request all the proud Indians in this country to start speaking up when they see something wrong, out of humanity, out of patriotism. Jai hind. Now off to another joyful & complex day at work !

Attempting answers to some FAQs on the Womens Reservation Bill AND the Delimitation: Question: If every census was done in the first year of the decade (1901 to 2011), why was 2021 census not conducted in 2021? Answer: Severe COVID until Oct-2021! Question: But things got back to normal in 2022, no? Answer: Things only got back to normal in mid-2022. Conducting a census broadly takes about 2 years (from planning to publishing of the report). So can't do it in 2023 because of scheduled elections in 2024. Earliest to start was 2025. Govt announced beginning of census process in 2025! Question: Why was women's reservation bill passed in Sept. 2023, not implemented in 2024? Answer: The ACT said that the reservation will be effective after the census conducted after the commencement of the ACT. The earliest the first census data will be available will be late-2027 or early 2028. Question: So by the original act itself, we could have implemented it in 2029? Answer: No! Because a delimitation commission has to be appointed and it will take another 1-2 years to finalize delimitation based on that census. So 2029 is also out of picture. Question: So by the original act, when was the earliest the womens reservation bill would be implemented. Answer: 2034! Question: Then what changed now, that the government decided to use 2011 census? Answer: The only way to implement Women's reservation bill for 2029, is to use the 2011 census for delimitation of constituencies. The government decided to use this approach for faster implementation of the ACT. Question: Wait, where did all this delimitation come into the picture?! Answer: Delimitation is an exercise that is supposed to take place after EVERY census. Delimitation does two things - increase number of seats; redraw boundaries of seats. Question: Did it take place after every census? Answer: No. Indira Gandhi, during the emergency in 1976, imposed a FREEZE on any further delimitation for 25 years. Question: What was the population to seats ratio when she froze it? Answer: Approximately 1 MP for 10 lakhs population (see the table attached - all regions were broadly aligned). Question: Then what happened in 2001 (25 years after 1976) Answer: Though Vajpayee was willing, many supporting parties (Regional parties, Congress party etc) were not ready for an increase in seats. So they put another freeze for 25 more years! Question: Did the freeze also include not redrawing the boundaries? Answer: The redrawing of boundaries DID TAKE PLACE by a Delimitation commission, for the 2009 elections. The census data for 2001 was used. Boundaries of both Parliamentary and Legislatures were redrawn, while the total remained the same. Question: So why increase now? Why can't we simply redraw the boundaries again? Answer: Please look at the attached table. On an average, an MP now caters to 20 to 25 lakh population. In some cases, the size of population is even 45 lakhs! A similar proportional statistic is applicable to Assembly constituencies also. As a country, we NEED more representatives, not less. A representative can perform better if the population he/she is responsible for, is broadly same for everyone. Question: Does that mean states that implemented population control measures will lose out on representation? Answer: Yes, they will Question: Oops, then is it fair? Answer: Nope, it isn't. Hence the prime minister guaranteed on the floor of the house that there will be a flat 50% increase for all states, thereby preserving the sanctity of the current proportion. Question: Is it true that Rahul Gandhi's Chief Minister in Telangana proposed a hybrid model - 50% population & 50% GDP Answer: Yep, he basically said that if you are rich you should get more seats! Question: Is there a table where I can understand this better? Answer: Yep, please see 2nd table in this post - compares the Modi proposal, Indira's formula and Rahul/Revanth's formula. You can see which formula suits best for our country. Question: Ok - all this is fine - now what is the link between delimitation and women's reservation? Answer: Our country needs both - increased MPs/MLAs and 33% womens reservation. Either of them, or both of them can ONLY happen with a delimitation commission. It is MANDATORY to conduct a delimitation exercise after 2026. The Constitution says so. Now, do we, as a country, really want another meaningless 25 year freeze? Or do we, as a country unfreeze and boldly move ahead? We move ahead. The smart way therefore, is to use 2011 census for a delimitation, increase the seats (and therefore redraw the boundaries too), AND reserve 33% for women. A delimitation exercise will anyway again happen after 10 years - so any corrections that have to be made can always be made! Question: Why make it this complicated? Why not use 2011 census and simply reserve 33% seats in existing 543 seats? Answer: The opposition is making it sound simple, as if it can done in a day. A delimitation commission is the only way to decide which 33% will be reserved in 2029, 2034, and 2039. It needs atleast 1-2 years to finish its job (another reason why this couldn't be done in 2024) Think about it, why exactly should we not let the delimitation commission do it's full job, instead of patch work? Don't we, the people of India, deserve better representation in our law making bodies? How much more longer will we continue this policy of "Freeze for 25 more years"? For whose benefit? Question: So no single state loses out of proportional representation? Answer: Again, no :) Question: Some opposition wants caste quota within womens quota. Answer: SC & ST quota will be included in the womens quota. Regarding the other castes, like the Prime Minister has said - let the women first (aane tho do!). Let them also deliberate and decide to make changes if any. How fair is it to debate and debate and debate, and not allow them into the house? Question: Then why is Rahul Gandhi saying Democracy is in danger? Answer: That answer, only Rahul Gandhi can give!

Some are gloating that centre has cleverly cornered the opposition and that in future southern states have no other option but to accept lesser representation. Don't underestimate South, more so state of Tamil Nadu. As a state, we know how to ensure our rights are protected. I can confidently tell you that the state would ensure it's representation proportion remains unchanged even after delimitation. I don't know how many know this. There is an act called The Official Language Rules 1976. This act makes mandates both English and Hindi as connecting language of every state. Let me reproduce below what act mentions. It allows Tamil Nadu to use only English. The act clearly says it is applicable to whole of India except the state of Tamil Nadu. "Extract from Rule 1 (Short title, extent and commencement): (1) These rules may be called the Official Languages (Use for Official Purposes of the Union) Rules, 1976. (2) They shall extend to the whole of India, except the State of Tamil Nadu." Tamil Nadu got the act modified. It did not go by verbal assurance. If Tamil Nadu can have its rights protected and made it officially documented fifty years ago, it is equally capable of doing the same now.

@derah26711 @TARUNspeakss Why this was not done earlier and why DMK woke up suddenly … obviously DMK wanted to save face for the damage already done by opposing 50 % increase and stands naked before public during Election times …… Modi/sha also cunningly timed it and are not sincere about it.
