I hear you What it's important to point out here, is that I think it's a misconception to have a "purely economic union" and not a political one, as is often demanded. If you have a common economic zone you need to agree on common standards. That means you need politics to decide on that (in a democratic way). Also, Europe is under attack from the outside. A free trade zone is not sufficient. We need tools to protect us. Especially now where NATO is more or less falling apart
