@vlad_kf it hooks the SUEOS and EOS methods (setup/run Equation of State). the floating point sabotage only triggers when there is: A: three nested shells B: a dramatic increase in energy between EOS cycles which only really occurs with mach stems or explosive lensing.

I feel like Illinois & Indiana also have a similar proportion of small towns that the locals pronounce *in a way no one else would guess looking at it.* The proper response to outsider's attempts to say the town name is very mild offense/shock & immediate, polite correction!
Nina Paley@ninapaley

There’s a little town in Illinois called Gays. They should do something with that. Not far away is Chicken Bristle, which doesn’t have a sign because it kept getting stolen.

@seconds_0 I bought one of these yesterday. I ate half on the drive home and I still feel sick and full over 24 hours later.

@captgouda24 He won't get taken off the streets until he upgrades to bonking someone over the head with an iron bar. Then he might spend a few weeks in detention before going free again.

Last Friday night, I called the cops. I had been sitting in El Jefe’s in Harvard Square, minding my own business, when a tall, thin man pushed my laptop charger off the table. Slightly confused, I picked it up, and sat back down again. A minute later, when he walked past, he pushed the lid of my laptop down on my hands, and leered at me. I immediately got up and walked after him, and asked him what his deal was. (I found myself too embarrassed to actually raise my voice – the mind of those macho men who escalate disagreements like barking dogs is alien to me). He turned around, sneered at me, and said “go away”. I did not. Instead I called the cops, and walked behind him. When he turned around and began walking toward, I began walking backwards, talking to the dispatcher. I followed him for about five minutes, until the dispatcher told me in no uncertain terms to stop following him and stay put until the cops arrived. So I did. I gave a statement, and they may come across him. I don’t know if they will. Why did I do it? I was barely harmed by his actions. I was certainly not hurt – he did not swing on me, or cut me. Calling the cops was a hassle for me, and following him exposed me to the risk that he was armed. It was not profitable for me alone. Instead, I did it for the principle of the thing. The man was being a petty asshole to strangers. I could exert some effort, at cost to myself, to prevent him from being a petty asshole to anyone. If I do not do it, then I cannot expect others to do it. He would get away with being a jerk to lots of people – and maybe he does something which permanently disfigures another person. A lot of people don’t report crimes which are done to them. It’s not even that they are scared, but that it simply isn’t worth the hassle to them. This is wrong! When you do not report crimes, you are partly responsible for everyone else who is later harmed by that person. But for your inaction, somebody else would not have been spat on, or suckerpunched, or yelled at. I believe I have a moral duty to report crimes, and to see to it that those who do them are punished. You should feel the same way too.

@stanfordNYC Nobody cares what you “would” do. Let people eat food the way they want, and keep your anti-Chinese rhetoric to yourself. Your country is self-destructing and being outclassed by China in every way. Who the fuck are you to tell Chinese people how to behave? You fucking retard.

Went to a Michelin omakase in Japan. Chefs insisted we sit in the middle seats. We later found out why: every other guest was a young, rich, bored Chinese national barely looking up from a smartphone. The chefs saw American names and knew we'd actually appreciate and interact.
Matt Bateman@mbateman

Was in Paris a couple months ago for wife’s 40th. We splurged and did a handful of Michelin stars and similar and kept noticing that it was mainly Americans, along with a smattering of other foreigners, eating at them.
