The New Testament does not contain a specific verse that explicitly commands or depicts believers praying to Mary. However, In Christian theology, the practice of asking Mary for her intercession is primarily rooted in tradition, theological deduction, and specific interpretations of her role, rooted in the Bible. - John:2:2-5( Mary’s Intercession) - Luke: 1:42, 48 ( Honor and Veneration) - 1 Timothy 2:5 ( Mediator Role) - John 19:26-27 ( Mother of the Church)

@Pacinator42069 @CatholicDrip___ The heresy of Feeneyism is only its denial of baptism of desire for catechumens and baptism of blood for martyrs, it still remains dogmatic teaching that outside of the Catholic Church there is no salvation.

I never said Mary was Divine and Christ wasn’t. Catholics, all Catholics not just Roman Catholics hold to the Marian dogmas. All Catholics do not worship Mary or any saint. Worship is Solely for the Trinity Period I we both agree on that. The issue I have is that to say the title Queen of Heaven, Statues of Mary, and Prayers to her constitutes elevating her to a state of Divinity which isn’t true. I’m fine if you don’t have a Marian devotion or if you don’t pray to her or any of the saints but don’t construct a strawman to slander the Catholic faith as idolaters.

Well, Jesus is our Mediator because He paid the price of humanity’s debt. The way I see it is that prayers are a good thing, and they are never wasted. For example, a soul in purgatory you are allowed to make prayers for specific souls so that they might be cleansed quicker and thus enter Heaven sooner but what if that soul is already in Heaven, or most tragically, lost? Well, that doesn’t mean that prayer, that request if you will, was wasted; it gets applied to someone else. From this, I think more prayers are always a better thing. Secondly, I think praying to Mary and the saints can bring you closer to God. I think family is an excellent example. I love my family, but we can’t place things above the Lord, even family. I found that once I put God above my family, I loved them more, and in turn I drew closer to God as a direct result. That wasn’t just because I put God first and foremost, but in doing so I saw more fully the gift that my family is. In a similar way, in learning about and praying to the saints, we have these individuals whose lives serve as outstanding testimony to the impact people can have when they let God lead them. In totality, I think praying to Mary and the saints is worthwhile because God answers prayers, and the more prayers you have for you, or for a specific thing, the better it is. Additionally, when we pray to Mary and the saints, we get the opportunity to draw closer to the Lord because we have the lives of these people as a concrete example of something to model our lives after as Christians.

@SonofManwithus I see a lot of comments saying that they ask the saints to intercede on our behalf, but isn’t Jesus our intercession? Wouldn’t it be better just to go directly to the source rather than a middle man that may not hear us? Not trying to make anyone angry here, genuinely curious

Just an fyi for the people who are confused about what the Catholic Church teaches: Prayer of worship (adoration, latria) is directed to God alone (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Saints and Mary are never worshiped. When Catholics "pray to" a saint (e.g., "St. Anthony, pray for us" or the Hail Mary), they are asking the saint to pray for or with them — requesting intercession, just as you might ask a living friend or family member to pray for you. Saints in heaven are not considered "dead" in the final sense. They are alive in Christ (see Mark 12:27 / Luke 20:38: "He is not the God of the dead, but of the living"). This is tied to the communion of saints (mentioned in the Apostles' Creed and Catechism paragraphs 946–962). Catholics explicitly reject necromancy (conjuring spirits of the dead for information or power), which the Bible condemns (Deuteronomy 18:10-12; 1 Samuel 28). They argue their practice is different: no summoning, no seeking secret knowledge, no two-way conversation — simply asking righteous people in heaven (who are closer to God) to join their prayers to God. They also pray for the dead (especially souls in purgatory, according to Catholic doctrine), asking God to have mercy, purify, or forgive them. This is seen as supported by 2 Maccabees 12:38-46 (a book Catholics include in Scripture but most Protestants do not), where Judas Maccabeus prays and offers sacrifices for fallen soldiers so they might be "loosed from their sins." Now I will await the bombardment of abuse saying this is wrong. Interestingly, they will say that the Holy Spirit revealed this to them, but will dismiss the idea that the Holy Spirit could have revealed this to the early Church Fathers. Do you see the contradictions there?

🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Catholics in the United States🇺🇸 have now reached 52%, officially making America a Catholic nation. Little by little, we hope to welcome more Protestants and Muslims into the Catholic faith as well. By 2040, our vision is for the whole United States to be united in one faith. We firmly believe that God makes a way where there seems to be no way. 🙏🇺🇸🇺🇲

@Pacinator42069 @UriBlago_v2 @5Solas2 This is one of those doctrines that makes it hard to become RC. Some of the Marian dogmas should be left to individual discretion. I can't help but feel some of these later dogmas were nothing more then a flex.of hubris.

In case you don’t already know, the purpose of repeating the prayers Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory Be is primarily to aid in meditating on the specific mysteries of each decade of the Rosary. I would also recommend Bishop Robert Barron’s guided Rosary. He does an excellent job of explaining the significance of each mystery which I find incredibly helpful in meditating on it.

Here’s an ex cathedra statement from Pius IX by the authority of Jesus Christ our Lord, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own: "We declare, pronounce, and define that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin, is a doctrine revealed by God and therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful." Hence, if anyone shall dare—which God forbid!—to think otherwise than as has been defined by us, let him know and understand that he is condemned by his own judgment; that he has suffered shipwreck in the faith; that he has separated from the unity of the Church... See the difference

@5Solas2 Whenever I point out statements made by popes in books or speeches that directly contradict Scripture (like this example from John Paul II), Catholics will agree it’s wrong, but then argue he was not speaking infallible authority ex cathedra.

Knights of Columbus
Knights of Columbus@KofC·
Statement From Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly: In recent days, many Catholics and other people of goodwill have been deeply disappointed by the disparaging comments directed at Pope Leo XIV by the President of the United States. The Successor of Saint Peter is not a politician — he is the Vicar of Christ, entrusted with proclaiming the Gospel and shepherding souls. The Knights of Columbus has always stood in solidarity with the Holy Father, recognizing in him a spiritual father who calls the world not to division, but to unity, not to conflict, but to peace. In this moment, we reaffirm that commitment with clarity and conviction. At the same time, we recognize that faithful Catholics can and do engage vigorously in the public square, and that nations have a right and duty to safeguard the security of their own people — always in accordance with the demands of justice and the pursuit of peace. The Church does not ask Catholics to withdraw from civic life, but to engage with and elevate it — bringing to our civic dialogue the light of truth, respect for the dignity of every human person, and a steadfast concern for the common good. Pope Leo XIV has consistently called for peace, dialogue, and restraint in a world marked by war and suffering. The Holy Father’s words are not political talking points — they are reflections of the Gospel itself. Whether one agrees or disagrees with particular policy judgments, the Holy Father’s prophetic voice deserves to be heard with respect and engaged seriously. As Knights, we are called to be men of unity, as followers of Christ and patriotic citizens. I encourage all Knights of Columbus to pray for the Holy Father, to pray for civic leaders, and to pray for peace and those working to achieve it. And let us recommit ourselves to charity in our public discourse. May we be known not for echoing the divisions of our time, but for healing them. In a moment of tension, the path forward is not louder conflict, but deeper fidelity — to truth, to charity, and to the Gospel.

Bishop Robert Barron

The statements made by President Trump on Truth Social regarding the Pope were entirely inappropriate and disrespectful. They don’t contribute at all to a constructive conversation. It is the Pope’s prerogative to articulate Catholic doctrine and the principles that govern the moral life. In regard to the concrete application of those principles, people of good will can and do disagree. I would warmly recommend that serious Catholics within the Trump administration–Secretary Rubio, Vice President Vance, Ambassador Brian Burch, and others–might meet with Vatican officials so that a real dialogue can take place. This is far preferable to the statements on social media. I am very grateful for the many ways that the Trump administration has reached out to Catholics and other people of faith. It has been a high honor to serve on the Religious Liberty Commission. No President in my lifetime has shown a greater dedication to defending our first liberty. All that said, I think the President owes the Pope an apology.

I am committed to being biblical. If you can show me from Scripture that my position is in error, I will, by God’s grace, lay it down in time. This is why I am Protestant. Scripture alone is supreme and infallible, not the papacy, church councils, tradition or any individual. I cannot afford to have my conscience bound to accretions and errors of men who have placed burdens on God’s people that have no divine sanction.

@ScottRoberts As for Queen of Heaven my understanding is that the title relates back to ancient Judaism during the times of the kings in which the mother of the king was the Queen. There’s also Revelations chapter 12. Again none of this is used to claim Mary is in any way equivalent to Jesus.
